Pictorial Guide to Ford Odometer Gear Replacement
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() To see exact location of the screws to be removed, Please see picture below of the left side as this is a mirrored location of the right side of cluster. ![]() ![]() You will need to gently pry under the face of each gauge cluster to remove, using a flat blade screwdriver. It is best to remove the left and right gauge clusters first and then the speedometer. The gauges are held into place by electrical studs that press through electrical contact sleeves. ![]() The five (5) illumination bulbs are part number #194 and can be purchased from your local autoparts store. Great time to switch gauge backlighting color ![]() The gauges will synchronize once reinstalled and the ignition switch is switched on. ![]() ![]() When trying to remove the motor you may either have to depress or lift up on the plastic tabs. It is easier to do this with two people but can be done with only one person. Once the motor is remove you will also see the worm gear attached to the bottom side of the motor. If replacing remove the old worm gear by pulling off. Install the new worm gear using channel lock pliers leaving the thickness of two business cards between the motor and the gear. ![]() There is no need to apply grease to the new gears as our gears have graphite mixed into the material. ![]() Reverse Order to complete installetion. +1 ^
i acutally am going through the same problem right now. those are the instructions i used, its really easy to get to, the only pain, is you gota take it apart to see if the teeth are broken first before ordering, so right now mine is halfway put together until my new piece comes. BUTTT..... do not take the needles off if you dont have to, i at first read the instructions wrong and took off all the needles and thought i had to pry the black part off, not know it and the clear plastic was one piece =\ so i spent a long time trying to remember where the needles go and getting them right, so if you need to take them off, Take a picture!! otherwise if you keep them on, and even if you move them a littlebit, they should recalibrate once you plug it back in and start your car. and where they belong Odometer Gears | 72 Croatan Road | Newport News, VA 23606 | 757.593.3478 thats the website to get the new gear if thats whats broken for you. Its $29 after s&h and all that jazz
