HELP! Severe detonation at 2500-3000 RPM!

Hope you guys can help!

I've got a 2006 V6, stock automatic with 3.31 gears.

In 5th between 90-100 at mild accelleration she would ping like f'n crazy! Under hard acceleration it wouldn't ping.

My dealer has checked & cleaned everything and has even replaced the MAF sensor.

Now, it pings even worse! Even under hard acceleration!

Today I even put a higher octane in to see if it made it better, it got worse still.

What could possibly be the problem?

I don't want to get a tuner yet, as it isn't even running right in stock trim now!

Thanks for any ideas!

SOHC

They said "everything" was to spec.

Even the new tech thought timing, but said it was OK.

They have called the Ford tech line several times.

Is there some sensor for advancing the timing?

I remember that there was some tuner out there with a setting for timing retard/advance but Ford doesn't do "custom" tunes...

Or should they?

Thanks

ford can advance/ retard your timing.
they have the machines to do it.

if your car is under warranty let ford figure it out man.

All the tuners are able to do it, and Ford can't do custom tunes but they can fix your car. Are you still under warranty?

Welcome to Mm by the way

Still under warranty.

Been pinging since day 1! Been in several times... Although they somehow don't have a written record of it until 36,000 miles...

Now under "extended" warranty. Just cost me $100 for a part that made the problem worse!

Gettin' real PO...

Was even told "Doesn't ping anymore, took it out myself!"

I think next time I'm taking him for a ride... BEFORE I pay the bill...

Shop mechanics seem to be able to fix a Focus or Crown Vic, but a Mustang?

Grrr. And I thought the 6 wouldn't have problems.

SOHC

PS: Told the service Mgr to keep the old MAF, it may need to go back in.

Deductible. Doesn't matter WHEN it started, it is NOW under extended coverage.

I'm diggin' out the lawnchair and the 152 qt cooler this weekend.

I'll park my F150 by the Service entrance and wait.

Maybe I'll bring sales brochures from different car companies with me...

So did you tell them that it pings while accelerating from 90-100MPH? You do realize your admitting to the dealer your driving at a speed that in many states is concidered a felony. If you did, I'm surprised they didn't void your warrenty on the spot.

They cant void it off of what you tell them. they can only void it off of what they notice.

Well, Ford set the limiter at 111MPH.

I expect my car to operate within that range....

Nothing more. Nothing less.

If you can't get it over 111 something is wrong. Or you have aftermarket gears.
