Shifting an Auto Tranny?
ok so this is my first post in a LONG time..but i wanted to know if shifting my auto tranny myself would destroy my transmission?
i tried it the other day to see what would happen..i put it in 1st gear, floored it, shifted it to 2nd around 5000 RPM and then shifted into Drive around 5000 RPM again..if this doesnt hurt my tranny id like to do it more often because it helped me accelerate alot quicker, it even broke the tires lose going into 2nd for the first time, ha so is this bad for the transmission or is ok to do this every now and then? |

It's fine to do. You are just telling your tranny what gear to be in, rather than the tranny "thinking" about it.

The only difference between letting it go in D vs Manual low 2 and manual low 1 is that the 1 and 2 position will provide engine braking because the low/reverse band is applied. Also the manual valve is in a different position.
Overall there is no accelerated wear on the trans. |

Even better the trans shifts faster than you, so just let it do its thing

Hmm I will put it simply, take it from me who has an auto and has tried this and thought everything through and tried it all...... NO. Lol
let the computer do everything and if you don't like the shifting then just buy a tuner.

From what I gather upshifting is ok but downshifting will break the trans because the 4R70W when you manually downshift the oil pressure drops and then spikes and it can do damage to the trans when that happens.

not to mention the rear end. The engine doesn't rev up like you would need to do and can lock up the rear end and can even cause the back wheels to stop and chirp for a bit putting lots of stress on the differential. Just think of a manual car downshifting without rev matching at a high speed.

Back to my previous answer lol, Just NO. I wouldn't risk damaging your car like that. I mean if you want you can up shift occasionally but I wouldnt do it often at all and def not in a track situation.

The only time I would touch the shifter imo, is turning overdrive off or downshifting to 2nd go from a roll, Let the car do all the upshifting for you. Becareful shifting though, I know a dumbass kid who downshifting to 2nd, forgot to upshift to D and slammed it through neutrual and then reverse( Guess he was panicing) And ended up sliding roasting his tires from like 70mph.

^^+1 if you want to shift, get a manual, this sorta reminds me of people puttin their cars in neutral at a stop light when their car is auto, pointless
