It wont fire up after sitting! but it turns over and over and over :(

SOOooo car got in an accident,

cars power windows and you forget the lights on dinger stop working, car still runs,

i leave lights on (see above ) kill battery,

few days later jump start it, run it for awhile park in front of apartment, let idle, disconnect battery when done ot prevent killing it again,

few days later, hook it up, cranks over (half assed) starts up, i order parts to fix crash damage, disconnect battery

few weeks later, need to move car, hook up battery, turns over a few then wont start (no biggy) grab the jumper cables and my ford focus

turn the key and she cranks and cranks and cranks, but will NOT fire up, i havent messed with any fuses, or anything with the motor, only removed the head lights... it does not act like its firing... so either no fuel, or no spark, i also tried opening the throttle all the way, no change in cranking. it cranks very easy...

i have not checked for spark, but i did check the fuel pump cut off, it was fine (i thought i might have bumped it) i will check spark soon.

so what are your guy's thoughts? what to try first? any common issues that come up?

Thanks!

-Levi

Reset the inertia switch. it is in the trunk on the left (drivers) side.

Sorry. I decided to read AFTER I posted. Is it throwing any codes? Check spark. But it sounds like the inertia, but you said you checked that..

LOL, yeah checked the inertia,

it ran two weeks ago, and has done nothing but sit in a parking lot... sense then

the check engine light comes on after i try to crank it. but all the fords ive used do that if you crank them and it doest fire, even if you just get half a crank in... or if you kill it, so not supre helpfull, ill see if i can borrow a OBDII scanner...

Was the hood open or anything? Has it rained since been sitting?

hood was closed once the weather wasnt as nice but it might have been open for a light drizzle,

mind you, the opening is against the building, so its not getting much/anything blown in there when it was open,

hell i can hardly look in the front!

ill double check again for any losse plugs etc... when i go to check for spark (probly in an hour or so)

Thanks!

Auto or manual? Try push start.

Check voltage on battery. Check spark as said.

even with jumper cables the bat might not have enough juice to start, try letting the car charge the bat with the cables for like 15 minutes, then try and start it. if its a standard try to bomb start it.

its an auto, but it'll crank for a solid minute or 2...

i ran two pairs of cables from the running car to the stang,

sadly my helping hand didn't wake up in time (she works midnights) to check the spark

but ill be sure to update as soon as i find something out!

oh, anyone know why the door/light bell and the power windows would stop working (other then fuses) i wonder if the same thing could have happened to the fuel pump (say a wiring harness jared lose in the wreck)

also ill be getting my hands on a OBDII scanner, so well see how that goes

Thanks!

-Levi

p.s. ill bump start motorcycles, but ill only do it in a car if i want to go downhill

sometimes when cars are in accidents, the first responders will disconnect wire harnesses to prevent the car from catching fire.

Sorry, but I just have to ask. Did you actually push the button on the inertia switch?

yesh, i pushed the button, pop'd it up, and pushed it back down, just to make sure is it normally open or closed? i might try unplugging the switch and checking to make sure its not broken (not sure how it'd break just sitting... but eh)

no first responders as the accident was a simple rear ender(it was actually kinda fun, other then the ruining someones car, and damaging my fiancées )

oh and it was infront of the county barn, so there was a sherif there watching as i slam into the back of some one stoped in the middle of the road, with no turn signal, break lights, or even tail lights on, right at dusk!

however the car ran fine, and i drove it another 100+ miles... it died while sitting.

all good ideas though! hoping to check for spark and other stuff(ill double check the switch and the like) tonight.

Thanks guys!

the g-forces and adrenaline where! of course i slid into the back of ford escort, which was out of gear (a manual) and didn't have any of the breaks applied.it was a pretty soft (for me) hit, so it was alot like a short roller coaster ride... (it helps i love adrenaline)

everything else was a load of uber suck, and i want to never ever for any reason, have it happen again!

but i now know why people like to be in demo derbies

also note, the other car accident i was in, about 5 years ago, was into a tree on a snowy/slushy day, again the airbag didnt go off. BUT NOTHING about that wreck was fun.

double post for update.

car has spark.

car does NOT have fuel pressure at the fuel rail when keyed, or cranked (the plot thickens!)

impact sensor in rear of car reads .5 ohms, so its fine.

once its light out, im pulling fuses! other then next to the battery and under the driver side dash, is there a third secret fuse box?

thanks guys for the input! i was dead set on a battery issue! glad i didnt purse that!!!

also anyone know what the voltage's for the fuel pressure sensor are? (im assuming thats what the 3 wires going to a plug on the front driver side of the fuel rail are)

THANKS!

Not sure what the voltages there should be. I would guess to start checking all of the electrical going to the pump and make sure it is grounded.

No fuel could possibly by a PATS problem. Do you have a different key you could try?

I couldn't see it being a PATS problem if he didn't complain about the light flashing like crazy.

If your car sat for too long a time ,the cylinders oil could have drained down causing loss of comp. pull the plugs, squirt a small amount of motor oil in each cyl, rotate eng ,install plugs and try again
