the split port is the intake, and you can swap the WHOLE engine without changing the wiring harness or cumputer. the 4.2L is just a bored out 3.8L.

you will need a fuel rail from a 1998 Ford Windstar because the winstar was a split port intake and the fuel rails are in the same position of the F-150 engine but the F-150 fuel rail isnt a return rail like our mustangs so u will have to just put a Windstar fuel rail on the F-150 engine and then hook the fuel rail up to your return line. its very simple actually.

Split-Port Swap - 3.8Wiki

heres a small amount of information if you just wanted to do a split port swap from a 99+ mustang, but you wouldnt get the torque that a 4.2L has

Ok thanks guys. I'm pretty confident on what I'm going to do. I'm going to attempt to find a decent 4.2L out of a 1997 ish f-150 and then hunt down a fuel rail out of a 1998 windstar so it will have the return line. Then I'm going to put long tubes on it and I'll have to mod the computer for the larger fuel injectors in it. Will I need a beefier fuel pump since the injectors are larger in the split port 4.2L F-150 engine? You guys have been alot of help, I appreciate it. Oh and then of course add a turbo. I've been reading alot about superchargers and turbos and I'm leaning more towards a turbo. Know where to get one for this project?

since you're thinking about going F\I I would get a new fuel pump. Way to think ahead. With bigger more powerful injectors you need to get more fuel to them, I've heard of people getting the pump out of a cobra or a focus.

And he doesn't need injectors until he has boost.

So I want to upgrade and I've been reading that converting it to a V8 which would be nice is alot of work and not really worth it. I've decided to purchase a 4.2L and build it up from the block so I need suggestions on what year 4.2L would be best to purchase for the easiest swap into my car and also what are my options when building this motor up? I'm looking for the most horsepower I can get out of it with it not being a v8. Also do I have any options as far as a supercharger or turbo? Thanks for the advice.

If he's going to go through all the trouble of swapping in the 4.2, why the fuck would he put in a crappy Eaton M90 that restricts him to using a single port intake? Turbo or Mysteeds Eaton M112 kit is the only way to go in my opinion.
