oil leak...

Okay, I have access to a lift and tools. I have a rear main seal leak (I beleive that's what it is called) The part where the motor and the tranny meet. Now.. How difficult would it be to fix that? I got a quote at the shop of $900! That's really hefty..

Can I just unbolt it, pull the tranny back far enough from the motor to get to replace the gasket and stick it back on? OR is there more to it than that? Anything else I should do while I'm at it? The car has 120k on the clock and No transmission work recorded.

Edit: Slow leak, maybe one or two drops a day.

Trans and bell housing have to come off, then its easy to get to, but be EXTREMELY careful not to scratch the end of the crank at all, or you'll forever have a leak. They do sell crankshaft repair sleeves if you do, but not something you want to deal with.

I took it out of my 94 when I first started working on it. My dad told me what to do, after a little prying I have it out, new one hammered in. I was 17 then lol, shouldnt be to hard for ya.

Been a couple years, but, raise car, take out DS, Trans, after that I dont really remember where it was. I just remember usuing a small pry bar and flat head screw driver and finally got it out. Got a new one and used a rubber mallet to hammer it in.
Over all I dont remember it being that hard at all

Did you use a lift bud? Or just a garage fix? Lol just wondering. But I've done a few transmissions, but that was with a lift, trans jack, and all the right tools. Haha.

Don't need a lift, a nice jack and JACK STANDS ALL AROUND is more than enough clearance.
