Getting my v6 to 2wd

Ive been thinking about making my 2000 v6 2wd recently and i was woundering first off how much of a difference you guys think i would notice 0-60 wise since ill have better traction and if it is worth it what do i need besides a new limited slip? and i think i would need 8.8" gear and im not sure what that is...is that the rear gear axle?

You can just add a 7.5" limited slip diff in. Your car currently has a 7.5" rear end so unless you get a while rear end assembly out of a GT stick with that.

Ford Racing 7.5" 28 Spline Traction - LOK Limited Slip Differential at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

It's not much harder to upgrade gears while you're in there which would give you much better accelleration. I myself just have the limited slip and it makes an amazing amount of difference.

You just need the new diff and some new oil(make sure it has friction modifier in it or add some).

also OP there is a handy search feature at the top right of the page that will help you hunt down numerous threads with this question and the many answers given.

welcome

on a side note to you difference question...at the track i lined up next to my friends v6..we both had CAI, Dual Exhaust, Auto's...the only difference was he had an 8.8 w/ factory 3.27 gears and i had the v6 7.5 w/ 3.27 gears...we ran maybe 10 times that day and i only beat him once and that is because he swapped over to some DR's to try them out and his underpowered v6 could not use them properly. He would usualy beat me down the 1/8th by .20ish

Pics of said runs..because this thread needs to be spiced up

he won but barely...those DR's killed his times

alright cool so on that link you gave me it says it doesnt come with the 7.5" rear gears but i dont need that because i have that already in my car correct? whats keeping me away from changing gears is gas mileage. now im woundering how much a mechanic would charge to do this for me

average install runs 200ish around TN but that's all up to the shop. If you do the T-lok go ahead and do the gears (if you can afford to have your speedo recalibrated or buy a tuner)...if you can't do either of the things i mentioned just to the t-lok and get ready to pay the install fee again on the gears later down the road.

BTW you drive a v6 so don't worry about gears making you loose MPG..you can loose some and still do better then me

Correct, you can reuse the gears you currently have. Doing so you will keep getting the same gas mileage you get now.

I'd say probably around $250 for the install plus parts.

If you do want to get gears though, they often help with gas mileage in town.

looks like this will be my next mod, hoping i will see a good amount of time added to my car 0-60 wise (its an auto) and how many of these do you think i would need for my limited slip gear oil?

I think it takes 3qts but I'm not 100% sure.

I'd just go to a local autoparts store and buy some 75w90 gear oil and a bottle of friction modifier. It'll be much cheaper and you don't really need anything special in there.

If you're having a mechanic do it they should be able to provide that for free or really cheap.

so your an auto...then might i reccomend a j-mod...harder shifts, trans will last longer, and cheap compared to other manners of tightening your shifts

The gears have a very minor effect on gas mileage. I lost MAYBE 1-2mpg when I stepped up from 3.27 to 4.10s. What kills my gas mileage is my heavy foot and high RPM shifting. If you think you might ever want to do gears, do them at the same time as the tlok. Otherwise you have to pay for basically the same install a second time to have the gears installed since the gears and differential have to be pulled out for both installs.
