Tranny worries..

Ive got this feelin my tranny is slipping. 3.8 1995 automatic im runnin. When im in my driveway ill stomp on the gas and it wont spin a tire... sometimes goin down the road itll downshift and rev to about 3800 rpm and wont acellerate worth anything at all, but when i let off the gas pedal about an inch or so itll accellerate... We also just did a thermostat change, rad cap change and full coolant system flush, it was runnin hot and the thermostat was stickin. We have all of that changed out and it is STILL over heatin, it got up to the L in Normal yesterday, but it only does that when i go to pass someone. My friend today said that its my overdrive gear cable, that it probably needs tightning.

What do you guys think?

I pulled the tranny dipstick and the fluid was still a defined red, and smelled like it should.. not burnt. What would make it over heat when i go to pass, when i let off the throttle and ride it normal itll cool back down to where it should regularly stay. My dad and papaw think its the temp sendin unit.

Also... tell me if this aint weird.

When im runnin down the road, the oil pressure is just fine, a little above mid way, but not 3/4 of the way over to the right... i guess to the high side. When i turn the key off and pull it out.... the oil pressure stays between 1/2 and 3/4 way to the high side... i turn the key to the right and itll drop as far down as itll go... and WITHOUT turnin the engine on, i can turn the key all the way back and the gauge climbs to about 1/4 of the way to the high side. Is this a bad sign or faulty gauging? I ran a test at advanced auto parts, the readout said Bank 1 and Bank 2 are running lean. My friend said that was o2 sensors.

I would figure that if the engine really was runnin lean, then when i go to accellerate that the leanness would heat the engine far past what it should be. Also... i have an exhaust leak right in front of the muffle on my right pipe... would this trick the o2 sensor into screwin up?

Sorry for all the questions... but im kinda worried bout my stang... its my first car and i want it to run as best as it can. a little over 126000 miles on it, but it should be all fixable. Thanks for any and all replies guys!!

Get a tranny rebuild kit from B&M if it is slipping that bad. Not sure on the other stuff sounds like you have some crazy gauges.

I paid 365 for all new internals on mine...of course i took out the tranny with a buddy of mine in less then 1hour on for jack stands...was pretty simple same with putting it back in....shifter handle, xpipe, then driveshaft, cross member then trans...1,2,3 but i doubt u can get a deal that cheap...plus i have a manual and autos are a pain in the ass

Just go to Autozone or any B&M dealer and tell them you want a overhaul kit and give them your information and they can order everything for you
