Clicking Noises
I have a 2000 mustang v6 standard that makes a clicking noise when the gas pedal gets pressed down. The clicking sounds like it is coming from under the hood on the passenger side - but that could be completely wrong. It seems as if the clicking speeds up the more I push down the gas pedal, but it only does this when I'm in gear - I tried it in neutral and it didn't make any noise. Also, it either stops at higher RPMs or I just can't hear it over the engine at higher revs.
I found another guy who has what sounds like the same problem, but it won't let me post the web address b/c this is my first post so if you need/want it message me until I am allowed to put a web adress in my posts. The responses to his question are all over the place and he never gets an answer that fixes it. Basically, it it only does it while in gear - and the speed of the clicks changes with how far the gas pedal is depressed, not with the RPMs, so I don't know where it could be coming from. If any of you have ideas about what it could be, know what it is, or have the same problem, help would be greatly appreciated. (And no I didn't join MM just to ask this question - I've answered all my other questions using Search) |

Re: Clicking Noises
This problem is popping up more and more on this website. I denied it at first, but i agree, its your passenger side manifold. It probably cracked. Ford screwed up where they put the drip hose for the AC. the water drips right on the manifold..therefore cracking it.

It's very difficult to see the passenger side exhaust manifold, so before I go and remove the air intake tube to try and find the leak (if it is a leak), would it be a leak right in the exhaust manifold, or the gasket?

it could be the driver side also.... my driver side was cracked.
the easiest way to see where its coming from is use some seafoam. buy it from you local autostore. pull off your brake booster hose and suck in 1/3 of the seafoam. slowly or your engine will die. then turn your car off. let it sit for 10 minutes and start her up. dont be scared because of all the white smoke. its supposed to do that. now rev your engine from under the hood and watch where the smoke is coming from. now with the other 2/3 of seafoam. put 1/3 in your gas tank and 1/3 in your oil. ONLY PUT IT IN YOUR OIL IF YOU PLAN ON CHANGING THE OIL THAT DAY OR ELSE IT STARTS TO BREAK DOWN THE OIL AND YOUR FUBAR. by putting it in the oil it cleans all the parts that come in contact with oil. more than likely its not the gasket.

Ok. Thanks for the replies. I went out and bought the Sea Foam today, and i'll probably use it this weekend. If there is a leak, will there be a fair amount of white smoke coming out the leak? or will i have to really have to look for it?

Ok, well I did the seafoam - and didn't find a leak. I did 200mL in thru the brake booster line, and the rest into the gas tank b/c i can't afford an oil change right now, then waited 7 minutes and started it up again. There wasn't a lot of smoke coming out the back and i didn't notice any under the hood at all, I look at the exhaust manifolds from every angle and couldn't see any white smoke. It was relatively windy tho - but still I would think I would have seen at least a little white smoke.
Should I try it again next weekend on a day with no wind? Or can you think of something else that could be causing the clicking? |
