Emergency!!!!..............................Brake

Does any one know how to tighten the emergency brake? mine gets just tight enough to hold my car when I park.

most likely your calipers are frozen or siezed. Samething happen to mine.
either that or your pads are bad. but i doubt its that.

you'll notice when you change your pads if on the calipers the pistons are stuck and dont move. you'll need to replace them, i tried everythin to get them to close and it didnt work, c-clamp, hammer, elbow greese.

well advanced auto parts sells used ones that are fixed up, thats what i got, it costed me like $50 i think if you bring back to core(the broken calipers)

it works fine now. it wont stop the rear wheels from spinning while im doing like 40 or anything but it helps alot more then it used too

I have the same problem with my 94 stang's handbrake. Hibdons after inspecting it said the cable needs to be adjusted. It grips but not enough to keep the back tires from moving while in gear and just ideling. Awful sound having the rotors move through the breakpads making that squeal, ugh. Btw, they were fairly new pads and rotors too.

Unfortunatly since I do security work I had a custom interior installed (center console removed and recarpeted) so my gun could rest comfortably on my hip, the only catch though, is the carpet covered the adjuster for the e-brake cable so now I have to rip up a 300 dollar appulstry (sp?) job to fix the e-brake. But it's needed because Hibdons also said that the reason my regular brakes feel so weak (unable to lock the brakes up on demand) is because its tied into the e-break system as well and if the e-brake is weak, so are the regular brakes as far as how hard they can grasp the rotors.

Dunno if it's true or not but I've taken my car there for years for regular routine stuff like tires, brakes, allignment, and they've never screwed me over, hell half the stuff they've done for me they've done for free because it was an easy fix or what not.

Er.. sry, long rant. Anyways ya get your e-brake cable checked out.

I got the new brake pads on and it didn't help so Im thinkingmaybe it is that the cable needs to be adjusted. do you know how to do that?

hibdons said there was some kind of nut that needed to be adjusted near the joint where the e-brake joins the floor. That's all I know, maybe a haynes book could explain more.

put the car in reverse and go like 15 mph and dont hit the footbrake. Pull the ebrake. Since its in reverse instead of stretching, it will tighten........
