Drifting

Now I don't wanna hear any crap about drifting is for ricers, becuase If you've ever done it you know how much fun it is. That being said I cant get my stang to drift....Because my 2003 V6 I has a 1997 Volvo 850. That was a sweet 1st ride, I know they look kinda crapy but it had 260 HP only downside is they are really heavy cause they make em "safe" and there are no performance parts for em. Anyway I know no problem dirfting in it and I did it all the time lol. But for some reason I can get my stang to do it...am I just missing somethin...is there a diffrent way I have to go about it because its RWD??

ur stang isnt as sloppy as the volvo its got a tighter suspension and has stabilizer bars front and rear to stop body roll thats why its so much harder, but if your good at it you can get it to slide.... hell i shit my self this morning i was sliding through an intersection beside my self in between a truck and a parked car i thought i was going to dammage my ride damn black ice lol

u dont just take a car and drift that easy....theres a difference between drifting and powersliding....drift cars are either heavy with a lot of power esp trq or light with medium power that still reacts the same as a heavy car even tho it has less power.....suspension on those cars are made to drift....the tire patterns are designed for sliding.......then fact that a 240sx gutted with a sr20det motor swap will not only drift well mostly stock it will run ur mustang in the 1/4 easily....drifiting isnt for ricers because the big time drift cars are bad ass.....domestics just got late into the game thats all...because the GT, SRT and GTO have been kicking ass in the D1 division

RWD makes a hell of a drifter. the reason you have problems drifting could be due to the fact you dont have LSD so only one wheel is spinning. i find drifting to your right in my v6 is easier than to the left, not sure if its true in other cars. also im sure you have stock suspension and these cars just dont have the setup to be drifted stock. i went drifting in my car last weekend but it ended up being more of just powersliding. could be due to my inexperience in drifting or just my car isnt very driftable. just keep trying man, even powersliding is fun. but remember you wear your tires down crazy fast drifting.

Ya with only one wheel spinning powersliding to the left is hella easy, right is rough for me. I haven't really drifted, I haven't tried but I don't think I could easily. Isn't it easy to drift with a frontwheel since your back can spin alot better than a rearwheel?

My first car was an 82 VW rabbit. FW drive with a whole 80 some horse power. Now I dont really understand the difference between powersliding and drifting but whatever you want to call it, it was a blast in that $300 car. That car was a beater. When I burnt the clutch and went to have it replaced I quote the mechanic... " you need to throw that car away". Anyhow it was real easy to get that car sliding.

power sliding is exactly that turning the wheel and keeping the gas down while still moving forward which u can spin out still....drifiting is keeping a constant sliding motion without actually having to straighten the car then start again....when u see drift races its constant and u dont break the pattern...power sliding it basically throwing the car around for the hell of it then straighten back out and but u can drift going dead striaght just tailing left and rite.....if you watch cops in movies they usually powerslide in a chase....watch a drift event and youll see the difference

Yeah man, drifting is very hard in our cars...the best you can get on your stock suspension and "one wheel peels" is powersliding. And that is still fun as hell! Funny you posted this cuz I was just out in my brothers srt 4 (my mustang is in the shop getting the 4.2 put in) and I was going up to blockbuster and i was drifting prettymuch every turn that I could.

correct me if im wrong...but theres no drifting in a front wheel drive vehicle...its powersliding. this may sound stupid but if you have seen tokyo drift and seen the bonus features and how they made it, they changed all the front wheel drive cars to rear wheel drive so their stunt men could drift in them. hince the term "rear wheel drift"

o, and the reason they changed them to RWD is because it MUCH harder to drift a FWD car for long distances ( you will have no ebrake when your done).

that makes sense because if you think about it, it seems like front wheel drive wouldnt allow you to keep the tires spinning and turn the car, o and how bout that white guy in the falken blue mustang gt, that guy is friggin awesome

Get t-lok and about 280-300hp at the wheels and it will be a drifting machine. You'll also want a stick so you have more control over your rpm and can stay within your power band.

You can do with an auto I do on the mountain roads up here you just have to know how your car acts and how to shift with your foot.

i can do this fairly with ease, but as my budget for tires is not high just wait til it rains and use the power over technique. get rolling maybe 15-25 mph and then crank the wheel and floor it at the same time to upset the car, rock the throttle and counter steer. You'll whip right around and straighten out...and then you'll see why they have enough racing harnesses in them things so only their arms can move.

and since our cars arent that high of horsepower any how, you might just want to keep the throttle floored while inducing oversteer otherwise you'll lose the drift, but if you get too much of an angle then just let off.
