Stiff Gear Shift when gas tank is low

Hi All,
A rookie question. The gears don't shift that well when the gas is very low. As soon as i top off the gas tank, the gears shift is much more smoother. I thought that transmission has nothing to do fuel. Any ideas ? Your inputs would be appreciated.

Thanks,

you're right, they don't have anything to do with each other lol
I can only assume that this is occuring with an automatic car?

well heres is what i have noticed, example of what mine does, lets say im going about 45 mph and im comeing up on a turn and i want to put it in second, as i put to clutch in and i can try to put it in second but its very stiff so i dont, i just wait till i slow down enough to the point where it will glide into second...i have only experienced that with down shifting though...i hope this max scence

If you revved your engine up to match the RPM to where it should be it would slide in... you can even do it with no clutch after you get good.

It might just be the weight difference that throws you off a little bit.

I definitely notice a difference with a full tank or a passenger and usually slightly change my clutch release.
