home made turbo?

well i've come to the realization that i want to throw a little boost on this sixer, but i dont want to spring for the cheapest kit TMA has. I figure i can make my own kit with about 1,000 dollars.

the only things i can think of at the moment to run low levels of boost (less than 10 definately) on a stock engine safely are...

Turbo (ebay/junkyard)
Intercooler (ebay)
Wastegate (if turbo doesnt have internal one)
piping
BOV
vacuum lines
oil/steel braid lines
bigger injectors
new fuel pump?
colder spark plugs
a diablosport/sct tuner

1) what else do i need?

2) Whats the safest psi i can run?

3) anything else i forgot/comments?

they can take A LOT and a lot of abuse. I cracked mine though. But, it turns out it was weak from a previous overheating issue it had.

no such thing as cheap power quickly. Especially if your going to be doing it 100% correct and not cutting corners. It will cost more than you think, that what I mean.

yeah you won't put to much power to our blocks don't even worry about that. The 3.8 can take all you throw at it.

You can find some nice sized turbos for a under 700 their. You don't need anything like a blowzilla.

I hope u know your welding and fabbing...also tuning on a turbo isnt like getting a tuner for a stock car....you have to worry about the air/fuel...possible boost spikes which you will go from 6 to 14 for example....also fuel managment system would be best....if u run 5 psi you'll get bored of it and want more.....a quality intercooler will be needed so you dont lose to much boost also the sizing...unless ur making a intercooler yourself...also external wastegate, boost controller, and turbo timer especially to keep the oil flowing before the car is completely shut down....do it rite the 1st time...or learn the hard way....it can be done with 1000...but remember theres always a want for more...

The blowzilla is a supercharger from Kenne Bell

You have to invert them, cut off the flanges, and fab up, or buy new flanges to weld on and fit the turbo(s)

If you go with cheap no name brand turbos off of ebay. Or if you buy incredibly small turbos, or junkyard turbos.

I don't recommend junkyard turbos since a lot of times they are in absolutely horrible condition

Ebay screwed me over, by not sending the turbo I bought at all

Why would you even buy a turbo thats too small for your car? Your not helping yourself out.

running a T4 is enough I would think....if not go with a turbo off a diesel truck...thats fairly used....either way you buy cheap stuff u get cheap stuff....a good BOV alone is gona cost about 200 or so...cheap ebay shit breaks from to much pressure...spearco intercooler ....TiaL wastegate...Greddy turbo timer and boost controller....you'll be doing good then...walbro 255 fuel pump...some good injectors size'd right a turbo cam....along with a muffler that will help with the turbo maybe a Dynomax Turbo muffler....or sun w/e just need something less restrictive other then open down pipe or a glass pack
