Fat Mustangs

I've been told I need to get up to 250 posts, so I'm just thinking of anything to talk about here.

I have a pet peeve about the current Mustangs. I love every single thing about them, except for their weight. Why is it so hard for Ford to make a Mustang that weighs under 3100 or even under 3000 pounds? The new 'stangs are so much heavier than my '01 it's crazy. Every time I've ever test driven the new ones I feel like I'm driving a Taurus compared to mine. It feels like an extra 300 to 450 pounds.

Now I understand the need for newer safety regulations, higher refinement, new technologies, etc...... But why is it a Corvette isn't pushing 4000 pounds like a GT500 does? Even the new GT is over 3600 pounds before you even add any options. If GM can keep the weight down, why can't Ford? Losing weight only helps out in every way.

To me there's no excuse for the small light ponycar to be in the same weight class as a Fusion sedan.

Yeah go buy a fox, or a vette if you want something like that...

You can tell why a gt500 is so much heavier than a vette if you just look at the design/what they are constructed with.

P.S. the curb weight of a '01 v6 is around 3100 pounds...

They are heavy, my old 2000 was so light compared to the 2011, but the power makes up for the difference. Still wish they were lighter though.

Exactly, and I haven't weighed mine yet but with my weight reductions I'm probably right at 3000 now. I'm just picky about weight I guess.

American Muscle cars have always been big and heavy with big engines. I don't see the problem...

You could always get one and just put it on a diet if you want a lighter car.

Eh I don't really care, doesn't matter much to me, I am never in a situation where 100 pounds is going to do me in.

I did but it looked ugly. It will only take off about 30lb.

I'm debating doing that one of these days. No one rides back there anyway.

Same. I was too lazy to make a delete so I just put the seat back.
