What should I do???
Ok so I got a 98 v6. First mustang and first car. I've had it for like 4 years and am wanting something with a little more power. Should I just keep going with this v6 and just make it better. Or should I go after a 89 5.0 that I found. Idk if that would be a big power leap but it would be nice to have somemore horses. You know what I mean.

Go after the 89 5.0 that you found, and keep the v6 as your DD.

I would go for the 5.0 depending on the condition of the car.

Depending on what kind of condition the 5.0 is in and what the price is, I would strongly consider going that route.

Well personally I'd just stick with your 98 and make it better.
But since you (assuming) like the 89 and it's not in too bad of shape then I'd have to say keep your current car (assuming you don't have to make payments) as a Daily Driver, buy the 89 and fix it up. There is such a wide variety of parts for that year that it shouldn't be that costly of a fix up. And then bolt ons are an easy come by. Make sure you factor things like insurance, payments, and the financial aspect before you go do this, seeing as if your parents are paying for all of this I don't think they'd go for it because mustang insurance is a tad expensive. I am only saying this because you say it is your first car.... and I'm assuming your parents bought it for you. But feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Man, If you look at the HP numbers, those old 5.0 werent far ahead of our 3.8s atleast the 99-04s lol
But the thing is, its a V8, the TQ numbers are going to be way different, the sound, the sit your ass back in the seat at WOT, all that you love about a powerfull car. You will be very pleased with the 5.0, just make sure you find an EFI, the are much more reliable. 5.0s are easier to work on, many more parts, sound amazing, much more powerfull, and it doesnt take near as much to make some very nice numbers ! Ive heard people say that they are stong durable motors that last a long time. I have a guy I go to school with, he's got a 93 5.0, man he LEFT my ass one day after school, not stock 5.0, but hasnt done very much to it ... He gets about the same MPG as I do as well lol Just my 2 cents but, if you like the looks, get it. You'll love it |

stock 5.0 vs 3.8 ? you pick
![]() Mod up a little on that 5.0, BEAST the HP may not be that high, but the TQ is much better, that'll give you the acceleration you really want. And it'll probably top out higher than out V6s even with its low hp

Well 5th gear is giving the guy problems lately and it did have a blower but he took it off. I mean it looks like it's in good shape body and frame wise. But with being blown does that hurt stuff internally. And it's already modded it's got 373 gears idk what cam but bbl shorty headers and a full flowmaster exhuast. He only wants 2500 for it so does that mean that there would be something wrong or is that just normal price. Other than the 5th gear problems.
