99 v6 camshaft

im trying to find a good performance camshaft for my v6, however im newer to the actual engine work, ive done a lot of after market like cold air intakes throttle body spacers and small jobs like that but, while looking for camshafts ive run into some bumps.

it asked me right or left w/o gear. if the engine is stock what do i need? this and any other info on what i need to know would be helpful

Alot of people like the SSMS lumpy cam. But find ESG on here and shoot him a PM, he can give you a lot of info on them and make you a custom one if you want

I am currently discussing one with him, thats my winter project when im out of college for winter break.
I was just gonna go with the lumpy, but idk if I will. Trying to see what he thinks we could make thats gets good power, but great sound to. Something best of both worlds, because to get 1, you take from the other.

That's not necessarily true. Nascars usually run a tighter lsa. It does help determine where your power peaks. Usually with a tighter lsa, you'll make more power but for a shorter amount of time and its usually higher in your rpms. With a wider lsa you make power quicker but it won't be as much. Thus why Nascars keep their rpms up.

Also, its not just the lsa that determines sound. The amount of overlap determines how much of a loopy sound you get.

Well I mean its not 1 or the other, but you have to give a little of 1 for the other.

I'm sure durations play a part in this too...but as far as I know a tighter LSA is going to give you better low end power, higher peak torque, narrower power band, and a lower overall hp number.
