tuner

Im looking into getting a cam for my 96 6-banger. So I was woundering what a good tuner chip for a reasonable price would be. Not having much luck finding computer tuning stuff for the v6. Thanks

I would highly recommend an SCT and a dyno tune if I was going with cams.

okay well. I was looking at them, and the first thing i notice is that they clear the DTC's... I dont need a programer that does this because I have a genisis scantool. Im simply looking for the cheapest way to tune in the "lumpy" cam from super six

Check with the local dyno to see what he prefers.

LoL - Mike = Newb... The Snap-on Genisis is worth its weight in gold! But I think you (OP) know that. LoL

Walters - I agree with these guys about asking your tuner. If he has the capability it may be easier/cheaper for you to just get a "chip" so you don't have to worry about purchasing a tuner. The only thing is, you wouldn't be able to datalog or upload new tunes recieved via email or over the net. Which is very valuable. I guess you could datalog with the Genisis though, so that is up to you. The Xcal III is a great device, but it may not be for you.

Thats my $.02.

my closest dyno/ tuner man for the sct is about 80 miles away.. which isnt to bad cause im up that way all the time, and i will be again anyway for the stock car points banquet. but i dont know the tuner personally, and id feel better learning to tune it myself... i might just get the sct from AM and pay alittle on it over 6 months lol
ps. correct me if on wrong but napa carries the genisis.. snapon carries the modis and then the little thing (i forget what its called lol) then gm has the tech 2. im sure thats not all there is out there but their the major ones ive used.

Nope your right (OP) !

You maybe be able to get Moates QH for your car if you wanna tune it yourself. Much cheaper option.

QuarterHorse for Fords [QH1] - $249.00 : Moates.Net

It's basically a piggy back system. Good stuff though! Works great and you can do just about anything with it. Plus, if your tuner is any good he can lay down a base tune for you and then you can tweak it to your hearts content.

Just wondering, what prices do dyno tunes go for ?

Ive looked at one place "local" ( 2hours away )

Mustang Parts & Accessories Superstore - 1800Mustang I have been back inside there shop and knew they had a dyno. So I looked and found they do offer dyno tunes for 250 and up. and 75$ for 3 pulls.

Dyno Tuning Services****::****Mustang Parts & Accessories Superstore - 1800Mustang

Is this a decent price ?

$250 isn't bad for a dyno tune.

Thats not a bad price. The shop by me charges $85 for three pulls, and $150 an hour for tuning ($400 for three hours).

well it says 250 and up, so ne telling where up would go just to tune a V6 w/ a cam.
