2001 Mustang - No Crank

I came into what I thought was a great deal (and still seems that way).

2001 V6 Mustang. Fulled loadded. Clean. No Body Damage, except for some pealing paint. $1k.

Owner is moving in 3 days and needs to get rid of the car. He thinks it has a bad head gasket. I go check it out.

Obvious Miss when first started. No fresh oil between heads/block. Check dip stick reveals water in the oil. Drove car around the block, still has decent power (If the head gasket failed, it was recently). Not overheating.

I pay for the vehicle and drive it home (maybe a mile). After getting it home, go to start the car, no start! Hear the solenoid and no crank. My first thought was started overheated. So, I wait an hour and same thing. I'm now thinking bad starter? The "THEFT" light was blinking.

Any thoughts?

PS - I will post pics of the vehicle tomorrow when I can take pics of it in the daylight...

Still a good deal, even if this motor needs a rebuild you could do a partial swap and still come out ahead of the game.

I have the same problem car won't start and i'm pretty sure it's because of the "THEFT" light blinking, I ordered a PATS bypass module from ebay as soon as I install it i'll let you know if the car starts.. does your fuel pump prime when you turn the key to the ON position?

This happened to my car numerous times. I'm not really sure what "fixed" the problem. All I know is that I disconnected the battery, prayed in Jesus' name, and it started up like a charm!

The no crank issue was an issue with the PATS system. Specifically the key. Got a new key (from ford dealer $100 yay), turned the ignition to run for about 1 min. No more no crank issue...

Driven approx 300 miles, only other issue (unrelated) is a miss. Ill know this weekend if it needs more than a tuneup...
