Take it off, and turn the TPS upwards if it will fit. Otherwise make it upside down so it is facing the front. It would be hard to hold the TB any other way. But yes, you are going to have to take it off.

Yes you will need to take the the tb off. disconnect the throttle cable, and the cruise control cable. you many need to use some liquid wrench to get the screws out. I need to replace my tps when i broke it transfering it to my new throttle body for my v6 single port.

if i remember correctly there are just 2 Phillips head screws holding it on, you should be able to get a ratchet with a Philips bit in there.

I thought I had to replace mine a couple of weeks ago. 218,000 miles on it and I couldn't get the screws loose, even with an electric drill with a philips bit. Stripped the screws completely. I had to cut the heads off (you WILL damage the old TPS), pull off the TPS and use vice grips to twist out the old screws. I got replacements off a '97 Thunderbird LX at the junkyard. It can only be reinstalled one way so you can't clock it in a different direction to make installation easier next time.

Get an impact screwdriver. It should be able to break it loose.
