wet sand before i clear my rims?

so ive painted my bullitt rims gloss black and im just about to add the last coat of paint.... after that dries, should i wetsand the paint with 1500 or 2000 grit sandpaper before i add the clearcoat?

I can see some orange peel effect with the paint, so should i remove it with the light sanding?

i wetsanded before the clear coat when i tinted my tails, but that was a different type of paint so idk.

ill try to get up a pic soon

what kind of paint are you using? you should be able to apply the clear right over the paint.. and then wetsand with 1500 followed by 2000 to remove the orange peel.

another thing.. has it been more then 24hrs since you applied the paint?

i just finished applying the paint 30 minutes ago

im out of paint... so if i lightly sand, i cant recoat it...

im kinda in a situation right now, because for my last coat, i didnt really give it a medium wet coat, so the finishing coat looks kinda dry, and since i was trying to use all of the paint i had, i kinda left a couple splotches of paint that are more gloss than the last coat i left...

so should i wetsand and then clear?
or just clear, and hope that turns the "dry" paint into a glossy finish

it will get a glossy finish after you clear over it ..

I would personally wetsand everything with 1500 then 2000 this will even out your glossy spots. then just clear over it ..one tack coat followed by 2 wet coats of clear.. and you should be good to go.

you can always try one wheel to see how it looks.. let us know how it turns out.

yea i think im just going to wetsand one rim and with the 1500 and 2000 and clear it, and then ill see if i should do it to the rest

ok,here are some pictures.
first off, i know they look like shit right now, but they arent as bad looking and noticeable in person.
so like i said before, on the last coat of paint i put on, i didnt give it a nice medium wet coating, i was just trying to use all the remaining paint i had, and i was spraying more of a dry coat. therefore, in some spots it has the glossy finish i was looking for, but in others, it has the dry and sometimes splotchy finish i need to get rid of.
on the coat i had before this, they were looking damn good, and my perfectionism fucked me up...
heres some pics of what im talking bout

here are some examples of what i was talking about when i said the paint was dry and splotchy

you can see here, the glossy finish that the rims should look like, mixed with the shitty dry splotches

more dryness... oh and btw these rims got a little dirty from sitting in my garage for about 2 days... all those hairs, and sparkles and what not arent part of the finish

i started wetsanding with 1500 grit on 1 rim. it still needs to be sanded more with the 1500, followed by a complete sanding of the 2000

so my options here are to either, wetsand all of the rims with 1500 and then 2000, and then shoot the professional grade clear coat over them.....
or wetsand then repaint the last coat with a medium wet finish, then clear...
or just screw the wetsanding on the rims i havent touched so far, (only started wetsanding one) and just lay the final wet coat over what i have so far, then clear...

oh and one last thing. these bad boys are getting a laser red pinstripe, so mind you, sometime before the clear, the pinstripe will be going on

first pic. of the rim looks good man. I still think you should pick up some more black paint and do it right the first time.

yea i got 2 more cans of paint. wetsanding and clearing would definitely be easier to do though, just because if i end up spraying a final wet coat of black on them, i could run into some problems with runs and drips...

just take your time with it ..
spray from left to right in an even coat don't stop while you're spraying..
once you're done
then turn the rim upside down and spray again from left to right (in this case it will be across since you turned the rim)

this will ensure that you cover the entire rim and will give you a nice smooth
even coat instead of spot spraying. but again let us know how it turns out

Heres a little teaser for anyone who cares. hah
i took a break from this project for a couple weeks, and i still need to wetsand all the rims down, add another wet coat of paint, add the red pinstripe, and then clear.
but here they are as they stand now
