Intake question

This might be a completely stupid question if it is just over look it pleas but when people talk about getting their intake ported and polished I unstand the porting thing but when they say polished are they talking about the acutal outside of it? Like if its polished is it like shiney on the outside like chrome sorta or is it somehting to do with the inside of the intake???

it decreases the amount of turbulence so more air can flow more effeciently with out any issues... which is a weird concept cuz turbulence helps atomization wich increases performance... but yea it jsut smooths out the inside of the intake
