Replacing the MACH 1000 head unit
ok I'm only posting here because no one ever gose to the radio / electronic section of the forums lol.
Anyways, I'm tired of not being able to hook My iPod Touch up to my radio and have to manage all my CDs (which we all know are cars have no room for a lot of CD's lol). So I'm looking into replacing the head unit. Now the Mach 1000 comes with 2 subs and 7 amps. Will the connections work on an aftermarket radio, and will it sound like shit or not lol. I do not have an idea yet on what type of radio I want to get, but i'd like to keep it in the 200 range. Dose anyone know the answers to those questions and or a good radio I could get. Thanks for all the help. |

I replaced the head unit when I wanted to listen to my ipod. I know the 460 system needed an adapter in order to use an aftermarket radio with the oem amplifiers. I have an Alpine and will swear by their head units, great improvement in sound quality and a louder, cleaner signal than stock. Even with stock speakers. I also added a sub. This page helped me with almost all of my mach system questions, let it be your guide...

Bro, get an aftermarket HU. pioneer deh-p2100ib is the one i got, It comes with a front Aux hook up, or if you want to get classy, It has an ipod hook up that i routed to my glove box. All you will need is a wiring harness. And butt connectors. You can get those at auto zone. If your throwing a sub in, you'll need a wiring kit.

This company seems like they make an adapter for any conceivable combination of stock/aftermarket anything. Check out the car audio section and then look for your nearest retailer...

Well if you plan on keeping stock speakers/amps and just swapping the head unit, you'll need one of these adapters on this page... Not sure which one because I don't know what the Mach 1000 harness looks like...
Car Audio Accessories Harnesses Edit: Some of em have to be spliced to your existing harness and some will plug into the rca outputs of your new head unit

ok so if the mach audio head unit is like the the stock ones in mustangs (couldnt tell ya i own a focus.) there should be 2 holes on the side of the head units you can just get the keys from autozone and just stick them in there. itll move a lil metal piece that clamps it in and it should just pull out. It wont be like when i first tried it in my buddies mustang, we demolished that thing had just ripped it out.
but like i stated thats if the stoick head unit has the same key holes as most stock radios use |

The head unit i assume is the same as the Mach 450 or the stock radio, so hopeful I can get it off easy.
and yes I know what you mean by the key things. BTW, how do your pop off the trim around the radio and such; is there a technique to it, or just pull. |

I went to Fry's electronics and they carried in stock the adapter to hook up my current amp wiring harness to and aftermarket HUD, it was like 20.00$ I am shopping around for a suitable replacement HUD too so I can hook up my Zune MP3.

be careful around the top of the trim near the air vents. i broke one of the tabs and now it rattle from time to time. the 2001 has screws holding the cd player in. ihink they are either 6 or 8 mm. and then it just slides out
