Just get a harmonic balancer puller such as this LIS-45500 Lisle 45500 - Harmonic Balancer Puller - tooldesk.com
And on the tuning you can get a good email tune through trick tuners. A dyno tune would be easier, and no wideband is needed, it depends on the cost of your local dyno and how close it is?

So Ive gotten the process down of how. Let me make sure I know everything I need to buy though. Engine Oil Engine Coolant Cam Lube ( or will motor oil work ? ) *And what gaskets do I need ? Or will the gaskets in the intake spacer kit cover that part ? Pulley Puller What else ? |

A valve spring compressor
I used a u-joint socket and a few extensions to take off the power steering/ alternator bracket. Otherwise you'll need a power steering pulley puller. intake to head gaskets silicon gasket maker for where the bottom of the timing covers meets the oil pan. Torque wrenches lots of little baggies and a sharpie to label where your nuts and bolts go . A Haynes manual just encase you get stuck or have any question. This should help you out with the camshaft synchronizer removal Replacing Camshaft Synchronizer & Sensor - Ford Mustang Forums (post #8) You'll also need brake cleaner as well as a few wire brushes to clean off gasket surfaces. A gasket scraper may help as well (just be careful not to nick the surface). And PLENTY of rags. I would soak the bolts you will be taking off with WD 40. Pry bars or big screw drivers will also be needed to gently separate the timing cover from the engine block (be patient and slower work it off). Yeah, without a power adder and the exhaust I had which was just GT take-offs, no cats, h pipe it didn't sound amazing. With the supercharger it did sound good though. I honestly hate the NA WOT sound of our V6s without cats whether they have a cam or not.

Will do for vids.
Guys I need help !!!! I HAVE to do this project between fri-mon. Thats plenty of time, but I wont have much help on this. Some family problems arrised, medically that is. Any tips I can get PLEASE tell me. I will be reading my Chiltons, and ssms cam install guide tonight and tomorrow. Most of this will be done by me now, I have no xp in this at process at all. My xp'd dad wont be here for much of it. Whats the best way for this, should I take the heads off to get springs off ( we have a tool for this) or should I rent the tool to take them off with heads on ???? Ill get to reading those two things asap, im at work all night, with alot of shit to do between my work, school that starts next thurdsday and I got alot to finish before I go back, and my car ... So I need as much help on this as possible, thanks guys !!! |

You don't wanna take the heads off, that's an extra hundred and sum dollars for head gaskets and bolts. You should be able to get a spark plug attachment for an air compressor for like $20 or so to hold the valves up whicle you remove the springs, if you have an air compressor that is. You should easily be able to get it done in the time frame you have. The only thing that might give you trouble is the timing chain tensioner, that's all that did fir me and you jus thave to fiddle with it to get it to open and put a pin in to hold it. And the clips on my fuel injector plugs broke and I just zip tie them now. But you can;t really control that, it was a common problem. I don't even remember if you have to unclip them though, I just had to change mine. And just be careful sliding the old cam out and new one in, it's not great to clunk it around in the journals. Not a lot more to mess up. But do find the timing mark on your crank ahead of time, I had to wire brush to find mine for cyl 1 TDC. And then when retorquing the rocker arms just make sure that each cyl is at TDC when you're doing it.
Oh and don't be afraid to use too much sealant on the engine front cover-oil pan. It's better than a leak, which I had the 1st time somehow.

Ok, so is there anything I need to do before I actually start taking stuff apart. I mean, the first day I get going, can I just start draining oil, and coolant, and taking off alternator, intakes, all that kind of stuff ?

yeah ... I may start this process tomorrow. Im gonna go home and clear out my car port some, so that I can get my car atleast half way in it lol Make sure our other vehicles are running fine, and start getting my shit together. Then if I got any time left ill probably start draining my oil and coolant and getting some simple shit off and done.
