Help!!! E Brake Problem

Alright, so I have had a problem recently with my e-brake/e-brake light. A few weeks ago I smelt the smell of burning brake pads. I pulled off to the side and realized it came from the rear pads. There were no lights on the dash at all, and the e-brake was completely off. I pulled the brake up and down a couple times and the problem stopped.

Now I have a new problem which I don't know if it is related or not. When I take off from either a stop or a slow roll my e-brake light will come on. It is off when I am stopped or rolling from a stop. The light only comes on when I have a steady, slightly hard acceleration. If I take off very slowly the light does not come on. When it does come on, it only stays on for a few seconds. If I am very hard on the gas it stays on until it shifts.

I should also add that there has been a decent amount of brake dust on the rear rims, compared to the front. I do not know if this is from it originally sticking the first time, or this new problem.

What could this problem be? Could the e-brake be stuck? A bad sensor? Please help!

Check your brake fluid. The light also serves as an indicator of low fluid and during acceleration there's some slosh in the reservoir.

This happened to me with the light coming on when I took off. The reservoir was low. But don't just top it off. Check if it is leaking. If it is just low, then you more than likely need new brakes. As the breaks wear, the fluid level goes down to compensate to the calipers being filled more.
