Shaking...

Hey guys,

I just got back from driving from Denver to Atlanta and I noticed about at the end of the trip the old Mustang had a slight vibration starting at 53 mph while in 5th gear, go above 55 and it doesn't do it anymore.

My gear shift will shake more than usual and the Mustangs loose clutch pedal with vibrate making a sound sometimes. BTW, does anyone know how to tighten that damn clutch up? For the life of me I can't understand why Ford made them so loose.

I know when I took my car in for an oil change the guys who gave me the "inspection" (and I know this is a rip off place, but they were open and convenient) and they said my transmission fluid was low. But I find that hard to believe being that my car is a manual transmission and it's only got 120K on it and manual transmissions hardly ever need fluid and I don't see any leaks under my car.

I may be paranoid and only noticing every little thing from being behind the wheel for so long.

Any tips would be appreciated, just wanted to really know if that may be a transmission thing. I do plan on getting it checked by my mechanic next week anyways, but it's buggin me now.

Could be the tires need balanced. You could've thrown a wheel weight off. That would cause the car to shake only during certain speeds.

Yea most likely need an alignment. The slightest change can do that. I have a small shaking at 55-65 while I am not accelerating. I am never within that speed range though so I keep forgetting to check that out.

Since you just made a big trip and you said it wasn't happening the whole time. Check tire pressure if you haven't already.

To tighten the clutch, push the clutch pedal to the floor then release. Then, with your hand, pull up on the clutch towards you. If it is loose, you will hear some clicking. Repeat until there is no longer any clicking.
