Minor whine on new 4.10s and tlok

So I took my car to a shop for the install.. and after playing the "come back in 2 more hours" game a couple times, I finally got it back. He said there was some minor whine, and it should go away after the break-in period.

I have been driving it as I should, and the only time it whines is about 40-50 mph with VERY light gas (maintain speed, no acceleration). Typically when I accelerate it goes away.

Is this acceptable? Should I wait a couple hundred miles? Should I burn this mother down, pookie?

you shouldn't beat on your car for a good 500 either...

I say give it a two weeks, so if the whine continues then you have a case for him redoing it

Yes you "should" be fine...Just be SUPER nice to those gears...keep your acceleration light...try your hardest not to go above 60 or maintaining that speed! There is a huge list of things not to do. ill try and find it for you!

After the 500 marker...if it still there take it because that means someone messed up the install!

I've had some gear whine very similar to yours. It's been 6k miles now and it still whines. I wasn't easy on my gears though. I picked my car up and romped on the gas as soon as I was out of the parking lot.

What gears did you use? FFPP are the best for the gears and the FFPP tlok ive been told make the least amount of noise.

motive gears( who make frpp) and ford racing for the tlok. I have been nice to it.. except I had to drive it a ways home (30-40mins).

I did keep the acceleration light, and since it was the highway, never held a constant speed and kept it 45-60... sometimes ranging to 70 for <1 minute.

Now I am keeping it less than 1/3 throttle. Hopefully it goes away, since the whine is so light and isn't very constant.

whine is good if they were installed correctly, the tighter the guy put them in the more they will whine. the tighter they are, the more of a beating they can take. this is why track only cars have bad whine usually on the road.

so what your hearing is absolutely normal, there is nothing wrong with hearing some whine, alot of people think whine means they weren't installed as good when it actually means they were installed nice and tight and will be alot more durable

now if its a weird sound then somethings wrong haha but some whine isnt a bad thing.

i couldnt find any from a ranger... So I went new..

And since my car isn't a track car, it probably won't be taking a huge beating.. I just want a quiet ride... not something that sounds like a dying cat...

Anything I can do?

The ones from the ranger have the VSS in the differential.. But it is no biggie really.

Thats what I threw in mine and worked pretty good.

guy whose putting my 4.10's on told me all about it

he said theres a number, i forget what its actually called, but he said for the 7.5" ford that 12,000 is like the factory tightness or whatever and 6000 is like dragstrip tight lol. so im gonna tell him to do like 8000.
