they need like a second or two to break in... but not to much time... i don't see why you would wanna risk breaking it again... i am babying my car after the $700 i spent on the timing cover being repaced.
just an idea ... like ima chang my oil this week cuz i know the old oil was still in their and could have mixed with the radiator fluid... so just an idea... if you wanna change the oil as a precaution after a week... you don't have too tho

im sorry dude but if i could hit u with a rolled up news paper i would why the hell would u leave the water/antifreeze mix in ur oil pan? that could fuck your main bearings 3 ways till sunday. water in the oil and antifreeze in the oil and seriously fuck ur shit up you should have had the engine flushed. anyways, after a gasket change you should have fresh oil in it and fresh coolant and drive it for about say 15-25 miles then have the oil changed and the filter changed again to make sure u got all the shit and sludge out that the blown gasket caused. also may i recommend putting a bottle of tranny fluid in your oil to clean the sledge and varnish out just make sure u drain some oil out before puttin it in and don't drive more the 15-25 miles on the tranny fluid. its an old mechanics trick does them same as the engine cleaners.

you should look into changing it soon if their is a bit in their... don't worry i didn't remove and clean my oil pan just drained it... but my car was in a bad situation... their was oil in the over flow tank... so i had the radiator flushed and am gonna change the oil on monday... since that will be two weeks since i got it back

yea i know the timing cover was cracked and this made it posible for the coolant and oil to mix behind the water pump... which lead to the oil being very dark when i pulled it and the coolant not being the right colour

regardless if ur oil is clean ur supposed to change it again because it will be picking up any last debris left in the crank case from that gasket leak. so do it. dont argue if you dont want our suggestions then dont ask

I'd say that depends whether you drive it 500 miles between now and then, or just for 15-20 miles. Coolant and water is heavier than oil, so you might not see it if it settled and you're looking at the dipstick. With the engine running it will get foamy if there is much coolant at all. If you get water between those hot working pistons, that's not good.
Anyway... congrats on the head gasket change. told you that you could probably do it When I first started mine up, after reassembling the top end, I also had white smoke for a while, and it also was running pretty rough. It smoothed out a little, but I have/had other problems. I'm currently cleaning and painting some stuff in the engine compartment after re-torquing the rocker arms, so I don't know if it's fixed yet or not. But keep in mind too that the computer has to re-learn the engine so it will run rough for a bit if you disconnect the battery for a while, as you of course did.
