The 4.2 uses the same connecting rods as the 3.8. the difference is the wrist pin height on the piston is higher than on the 3.8 here I'll post a pic of my 4.2 pistons to show ya.

Edit: I cant remember my photobucket info.. the connecting rod length of a 4.2 6.090 same as 3.8. 4.2Compression Height 1.263, 3.8 compression height is 1.607 a difference of .344. the stroke of the 4.2 is 3.74 the 3.8 is 3.39 a difference of .35.

got ya, so i can use to the connecting rods, that saves me some $$$...so im guessing ill just need the 4.2 pistons then

so all i need from the 4.2 is...the short block/pistons/crank rite?

Well i'm using my 3.8 block. I think the newer 3.8s and the 4.2s have taller main caps requiring the 01+ oil pan. may need the oil pickup tube as well. You'll need a 01+ Flywheel and Crank Pulley.

Edit: I think the windage tray also makes a difference on using the 01+ oil pan.

okay this makes sense now...so basically i just need to put the 4.2 crank/pistons in the 3.8 01-04 motor rite?

well my plan is to get an 01-04 motor and build on that and just keep driving what i have now, then when the build is finished swap out the old in with the new =)

^ well yes as long as you inspect it first, lol. Also have a machine shop remove the counterweight on your asp so that you can keep that. It'd be a really good idea for you to also send the entire rotating assembly to the machine shop just to make sure your balance is good, as well as inspecting the block and making sure the cylinders are'nt out of round. Better to pay a little more now than alot more later. Also have them check the deck height so that you can keep your compression ratio. Im planning a near zero deck with a .010 shave on the heads but then again i already decided not to boost. So I'm looking for a little more N/a where i can get it.

Pieces, let them inspect everything.. If anythings wrong they'll let you know. they'll also weigh everything sep. so that they can calculate the bobweights for checking the balance. Most places usually charge around 225 to balance the assembly.

^good luck and happy modding. I'll do a very through write up when i get home, I realized now i got most of my info from 3.8 and 4.2 tech sheets as well as 3.7 and corral. I typed 4.2 stroker into the search and nothing came up. Suffice it to say i was very surprised.

To the OP, best of luck with your build. I'm sorry that happened to dad and to your build. Keep a good positive outlook and I'm sure everything will work out the best for ya'll.
