Mac LT's question

I have a 2002 auto and my stock shorties are obviously cracked and I am looking to replace them. I might as well go and spring for some long tubes to get some performance out of this repair. I am not planning on going turbo atm, so this is strictly about headers, not future mods.

I don't wanna cut or weld on my new long tubes so im guessing a mac hpipe would bolt right up with the flanges and flares on the long tubes right? I have divorced duals right now and I like them but I would rather weld on my hpipe instead of my long tubes.

Question 1: I don't wanna pay a shop to install my headers but I can't weld at my house so would it be safe to install the headers/midpipe and then drive to my exhaust shop to finish the job? I am not worried about driving with open headers but I was wondering if the headers/midpipe would stay up on its on or would I Need to fab something to hold it up for the trip? I can't remember but I don't believe that there is any hangers for the mid pipe under the car.

Question 2: are mil eliminators required if I plan on getting a can tuner, doesn't the tuner turning the rear sensors off replace the need for the eliminators?

Question 3: In NC they just hook your computer up and run the tests, no visual for exhaust mods that I have ever experienced. Does the turning off of the O2 sensors show up as not ready or N/A on the OBDII testing?

1) dont know havent seen my car in 8 months
2) I dont use a handheld BUT
3) depends on what part of NC your from. I'm at fort bragg, luckily my cars registerted in ga. However out in raeford they just did a visual check for CEL's, and wipers, tires, and overall safety inspection on a jeep i had registered there. so you should be good as far as that is concerned. If they do a sniffer check were your at i'd be more worried.

are those mac? and did you use the mac h pipe? I would rather just use my divorced mid pipe but im not sure how to weld to the mac long tubes with the flared ends.

Also do you remember if there were any hangers on the mid pipe?

I havent checked out everything they have here. but i know you can cut off the swivel socket and weld these flanges on and use another 2 bolt flange with a flex joint to take some stress off those long tubes. It's what i'm thinking of doing when i make the custom prochamber styled x pipe. Hope this link will help you!!

2 Bolt Flange Specs

If you need to, just run open headers to the shop, should be the same as running an open hpipe. might not wanna romp it going through town though, lol.

what im wondering is, will the headers and the h pipe support itself with the manfold bolts or is there a hanger on the mid pipe..I cant remember what mine looks like and its raining out atm

Mac's website has the ceramic headers and h pipe shipped for 588 and then another 100 from american muscle for the extenders and eliminators. so after buying a gasket set im looking at 720 bucks roughly not including any labor costs with rewelding my catback up. Almost makes me wanna juts get some oem manifolds and fix that leak

It's your call buddy, I know you can get the stock manifolds from Autozone, but I think I saw the on Ebay as well. good luck with whatever you choose. If I was back at bragg I'd have you come to my house and I'd do the welding for you.

I would rather not buy that h pipe as I wanna keep them divorced..is it possible to cut my mid pipe and weld a flange on to connect to the header? I would imagine so

^ my previous post with the link. just put a 2 or 3 bolt flange on the header, and another on the divorced side, seal it with some high temp gasket sealer and flog that bitch.

ha yea that should do it.

I think imma just go this route for now Ford Mustang V6 Exhaust Manifold Set 1999 2000 2001-04 - eBay (item 280492910069 end time Feb-07-11 12:07:59 PST)

it is oem manifolds for both sides with gaskets for 150bucks shipped and will at least give me back the mpg and power loss by my current leaks and make my current setup sound better than the annoying ticking and whatnot.

Yes those are MAC's with a MAC shorty H pipe.

if you want to weld them to your existing pipe get pasesetters as they have no flange.

There are no hangars on the mid pipe, the front of it is held by the headers and the back by the hangars above the mufflers.

the down side is you wont pass inspection even with the codes deleted:/ you still have to have your 02 sensors plugged up somehow

I agree that the pacesetters are probably a better option for you and should save you some bank with the divorced setup you already have.

Did they just plug in your car and that failed you? or did you fail the visual inspection?
