Another exhaust question
I have went through soo many debates with myself about exhaust. I'm soo scared it is going to sound like shit and i'm going to be stuck with it. My favorite sounding exhuast is flowmaster...but only if the cats are left on, when you take them off on a v6 it pops. So i was just going to put a cat-back on leaving the y-pipe...I know its restricting. Then I relaized it sounds good but its not loud enough....in my opinion because the y-pipe only lets out so much. I don't want to put long tube headers on right now maybe later on but for right now no. If I were to take the stock catted H-pipe off of a mustang GT and put a flowmaster cat-back would it do that poping thing or would the cats keep it from doing that?

I don't know if this helps, but before I got my dual magnaflows I ran around for a while with the muffler cut out. It still had all the cats and the stock y pipe but when I downshifted it popped pretty good. Now with the dual magnaflows, no h pipe, and all the cats it still pops but very very quietly. I plan on eventually getting LT headers and cutting all the cats, then i think it will pop more and be louder.

i don't know i think the only way eliminate the pop is huge piping but that kills ya in the back pressure

I'm also looking into throwin on some 2.5" Flowmaster 40's. What do you guys think would be best.. bolt on the exhaust straight from the Y-pipe or cut the Y-pipe leaving the cats on?

Cut the Y and just run true duals (with cats)

I here a lot about putting a cross over when creating a true-dual. Can someone clarify this for me. Will a pipe just be custom made when the Y-pipe is cut making it look like an H pipe?

the y pipe will most likely be completely taken off and it will be replaced a custom fabbed h pipe i will try to demonstrate the change to you using some random buttons on the keyboard, but im pretty sure itll turn out horrible.
-----_____ ----- []----- <-----Stock exhaust --------[]--- / <-----Custom h pipe and dual exhaust --------[]--- After looking at my diagram im pretty sure its just going to confuse the hell out of you but at least i tried. If i were you, just buy an h pipe and catback online (ebay) and do it yourself. The install is VERY EASY all you will need is two exhaust hangers and (mil elliminators or a tuner). Aroun where i live (River Falls, WI) every muffler shop wants $575+++ just for mufflers and tailpipes. You can buy that online for 350.00 ( i highly reccomend MAC)

Well i'm not too sure what the deal is with the H pipe and cats. From what I've seen H-pipes dont have the cats and I don't want to remove my cats.

look around this site people will say the same thing...go to exhaust shop tell them you want an hpipe from the cats to flowmaster mufflers (super 40s) and then whatever tips if they tell u more than 375 tell them they are wrong and this is what is should cost

h- pipe can come either with or without cats. I just last week installed a catted h-pipe on my car. The h pipes with cats are more expensive, but legal or at least more legal(what is the deal with exhaust and being legal cuz ive herad that any aftermarket exhaust is illegal) If you are having a shop do it they can weld your stock cats back on, but you would be much better off just getting aftermarket highflowing ones.

the only problem is i have heard that like the cats cant be removed unless they are faulty but i mean who would know if they were or werent when ya took em off, and i think they have to have the same amount of cats that were on the car stock
