Need Opinions and Suggestions
Hello everyone.
I'm rather new here. I just purchased a new 2011 v6 a week ago. I got the cheapest one possible... no leather seats... no sound system... no ambient lighting. I was driving the other night and thought that it would be really cool to have like a ambient lighting over the pedals and on the passenger foot area .. as well as under the driver and passenger seats. I thought that I could use like ice blue led strips so that it would match the gauges as well as the center console controls. I have no idea where to start though. (wiring, purchasing, what products to use... etc.) Any help would be greatly appreciated

Get some cheap LED's off eBay, they're a lot less expensive then the ones you'd buy at AutoZone. 3M tape under dashboard. Then you just wire them into the fuse box on a key on fuse.

You can pick up LED strips really cheap on eBay. They generally come from China, but mine have lasted almost a year with no problems. I've also written a guide on the install: Mustang Footwell Lighting
The guide is specifically for 99-04 models, but the general process is pretty much the same. You'll need 4 LED strips, some wiring (I think I used 16 or 18 gauge plus I color coded mine -red for positive, black for negative), wire cutters, electrical tape (or heat shrink tubes and a heat gun), a switch if you don't want the lights on all the time, and a soldering iron + solder if you don't want to do the old twist together method. You'll just have to find a power source to tap into (I personally used a cigar lighter/accessory port, but people have used the radio harness and other sources). Edit: These are the kind of strips I recommend: There is a different kind that has the LEDs sticking much further out but they put out a lot more light, and the ones in that link will put out more than enough (I actually covered a few of the LEDs to tone it down). 15 SMD/12"/30cm is the length I recommend as well. Lights up the footwells very nicely. Not to mention you can pick them up dirt cheap (usually $2 shipped per strip or $3 shipped for sets of 2 strips). Also, doing it this way will save you a lot of money. There is an "ambient lighting kit" for 05+ models that a few companies sells. It runs right around $200+ and the only difference is that you get the "string" lighting for the cup holders. I know for a fact you can get a strip of "string" lights at Advance Auto for maybe $25 if you really want to go with that.
