V6 to V8 swap
Hey guys, I was offered a motor out of a 99 GT today, the guy with the motor wants to put a Lincoln 4v in his car, and to get the money he is going to scrap a 88 Caddy, and whatever the difference is, he will sell the 4.6 to me for, I figured it would be cheaper to do the swap then hook up everything I was going to do to the V6 in my car, I know I swap out wiring harnesses and computers, is there anything else? and will the V6 trans hold up with the V8?

Uhm, well have you done an engine swap before? If so, go for it. If not, sell your car and buy a GT.

Well in that case...i think you need the k-member from the gt. Also another thing is your rear end. I mean you can run a 7.5 but i would get an 8.8. And i think youll need a diff bellhousing for the tranny. As for power wise, the tranny should have no problem holding up.

Yeah. the windstar is pretty cool on 6s, but if you can swap it and its not too expensive, id say go for it.

You also need a computer, instrument cluster, K-member, trans and/or bell housing, rear end, and some other oddities.

I'm not sure bout the cluster but I am almost 100% sure you don't have to swap the member all u should need is the different motor mounts for the 4.6

You def need to swap the k member. And you also need some other suspension stuff to handle the extra weight of the v8

your forgetting the fuel system, the exhaust system, radiator & fan, air intake ststem including the MAF, flywheel, clutch, complete a/c system, brake booster & master cyl.
also yes, you will need to swap to a GT instrament cluster. bell housing patern is diffrent so you'll need a v-8 trans. you'll also need to swap the rear axle if you ever plan on driving it hard. bottom line, v-6 to v-8 swaps in these cars require a donor GT to do it right. just sell the v-6 & get a GT if you want a v-8.
