what was he thinking?

What was the previous owner thinking?
Or better yet, what was I thinking in not asking about it or asking to get it fixed. Well it's too late now I've already cracked part of the plastic. But that's alright I just want to get this thing flipped over.
How do I fix it?

You can kind of see the crack in the pic. It's from where I lean back in the seat and this thing hits it.

Do you know what to use to unbolt it? Because whatever that six-star thing is keeping it in I don't have the right tool to undo it. So I'll have to buy it. Just wanna know what I'm asking for.

a torx bit...you can either get it in a socket form, nut driver, or just a 1/4" hex bit to fit a drill driver

no lol...i feel like im talking to a customer at work

go in there and get a torx bit set...also look at the bolt on your seat and see if the star shaped hole is empty or has a lump in the center...if it has a lump you'll need a security torx bit...if its just a star shaped hole then you'll only need a standard torx bit

I'm sorry for my ignorance I really am. I do have an excuse though.... MY DAD. Most of what guys learn about tools, cars, home improvement, etc come from learning from their dads. Well mine don't know jack squat about nothing. I had to change a headlight for him a few weeks ago. I'm just trying to learn now so my son isn't so hopeless lol

But THANKS. I'll head up to Home Depot and get me one of them torx sets. I don't see a lump in the center so I guess just a standard one.

You can try an auto parts store if Home Depot doesn't have the right tool, the folks at most auto parts places will even take a walk out to your car and let you know exactly what you need.

just go buy a little driver set for like 3-4 dollars, then just take them off, mine have been off for so long that I forgot the car came with those.

Am I the only one who finds it wrong that you can go into a hardware store and buy security torx bits? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

I've never seen one of these that actually works and is quiet (ie, you don't have to tap the glass to get it to break through).

I do a TON of stained glass work. You don't just cut through glass and remove it. You score it w/ a tool and then tap it to propagate the brake through the glass. I wouldn't exactly call tapping on glass a quiet thing.

Don't feel bad man, you're not the only one. My dad taught me how to drywall, build a deck, lay tile, etc. But when it comes to cars he doesn't know much. So the guys here at MM and my good ol' Haynes manual have taught me everything I know about cars
