Sensor Placement

Ok well I was talking in class today with my teacher about O2 sensors. And he was asking me about my wideband in my car. He asked where I placed it and I placed it after the cat in the rear O2 spot since I have my rear O2s shut off. He didn't understand how it would read the right amount of oxygen since the cat would be changing the exhaust mixture.

I didn't have a good answer. Is it ok to put it after the cat or should I move it? It seems to read just fine. I just want to kind of figure out why it doesn't matter so I can tell him.

Thanks.

The cats might alter it a little but you should still get a good reading , I would go for the precat sensors to be safe , or better yet get longtubes and throw out the cats

not haveing it close to the precat location can cause idleing issues down the road..can cause your car to run lean or rich...at least that's what i've noticed from putting the midpipe on my car and a few of the v6 guys as of late..i can understand your teachers confusion

Wideband is supposed to be before the cats.

Before the cats would be the correct place to put it.

I actually asked my tuner the same question since he was pulling the AF ratio from after my cats. His response was that 10yo cats won't be doing much to alter it but he's aware that he might have to adjust for them a little.

It ended up his after cat reading was very, very close to my wideband reading that is installed pre-cats.

Ok thanks, I thought that it seemed weird. I wasn't really thinking at the time of installation. I just remembered someone saying they put it in the rear o2 spot. Ok well I will have to move that around after I do my cam so I can get a correct reading for datalogging. Thanks.

And I plan on maybe getting headers this summer if not maybe in the winter we will see how funds are.
