mach 460 question

i have been searching for the answer but cant seem to find it.

ok i know i have to purchase the harness with the two plugs. and one with the rcas. http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchf...0705519-f.jpeg

"2002 mustang, v6 engine" with mach 460 i believe. 6 disc cd changer.

so i went to bestbuy and they had the harness for the non mach system.
the geek told me when i do get the right harness, that i have to "lower" the ampage or wattage or idk what he was taliking about?

he said that because if "it" is not lowered, the amps will fry......

i was already eagered to do the install. any insight will be greatly appreciated.

thank you

yeah well i already read up on how to install the new deck so that itll work with the mach system....

only thing now worrying me now is what the bestbuy guy told me about "lowering" something before or after installing.
dont wanna burn out the stock amps.

and all i been reading is to use the correct harness but nothing about this "lowering" issue

He might be talking about lowering drive current to the amps but I haven't heard of anyone having to do that with an aftermarket headunit. I had a Pioneer headunit installed in my 96 Cobra and I've still got the same factory Mach 460 speakers and amps.
For my 95 v6 Mustang, I installed the Mach 460 system from a donor 95 Cobra and then added a Sony aftermarket headunit; again still using the factory Mach 460 speakers and amps with the new headunit.

This happened to me as well when I changed my HU. It was me and my friend who did the install... We tried lowering the amp/watt but that didn't work... We simply had to but a "metra" harness... Everything is working fine now...

Ps I can't remember the exact model or item number... Sorry, just google it or something and another thing... Questions like this belongs in the "Electronics" section... Don't wait till 6ER tells you. Lol

I hate the Stock Mach460.. I took The entire thing out.. Wires and all.. Put in New amps, Sub, speakers, HU, Wires.. Sounds Much better And The stock wiring is rediculous.. So many colors..

When I did my install I just wired the harness and connected it to my head unit and it worked fine. I've heard of some problems with the wiring the Mach 460's but you should be fine.

Keep in mind, however, that if you don't use a resistor you will hear a "pop" every time you turn your radio on. Search around for more info on that.

And yes, that guy at Best Buy was full shit, most are.

Look on mustangworld.com. I believe they have a right-up on how to I stall it right. The best way to tell if you have a amch is that you will have tweeters next to you side mirrors that say Mach 460 or Mach audio or something along those lines.

I tried the same thing, I got a direct harness that was supposed to fit everything perfect. unfortunately, The stock amps were interfering with everything, since my Head unit put out some power. I got this weird White noise/ Static sound when i turned it on, and the beep to hit the buttons was like amplified x10. So I said screw you Mach460. and Gutted the whole thing, Ran all new wires, New amps, new sub, everything. Sounds Nasty now
