What is safe?

Ok I am in the process of getting my "lumpy cam" I am installing comp 915 springs with my setup. I know that the cam on comp is rated from 1800-6200 rpms. I have ported lower intake with IMRCs removed, windstar upper. I am curious to what would be a safe rpm to run at? I mean for racing. I was thinking 6000 rpm would be a good rpm to set my shift light for? Or maybe 5700. I know I am upgrading the springs and cam but the stock rockers will still be used. What are your opinions on this?

Put it on a dyno, see where you stop making power, adjust as such.

ok well I don't have access to a dyno so what is a general rule of thumb for the stock rockers and internals? I am going to try to do it by traps in the 1/4mile with the rpms that should kind of work for showing where I am making power.

If you have a handheld can't you use livelink to sort of see where your power is ending.. I know it's nothing like a dyno.
I havent used it in ages so IDK

I'm sure there is a dyno somewhere around you, who are you going to get to tune the car?

You can datalog the vehicle acceleration rate and adjust your shift points accordingly.

I believe you can see your torque at the torque converter also..
Not sure on accuracy

I don't have a torque convertor. I have a manual trans. I will just do it by feel. You can kind of feel when the car starts to peak on power. I think I will be able to get close. I just want to know what is too far for the stock internals and stock pushrods and rockers?

The springs are the weak point from what I've heard
Also if your worried about it just up the pushrods. Rockers will be fine

I forgot you were a manual

I am getting the comp 915 springs so that will help on the springs. We will see on the pushrods maybe down the road. I am fricken excited to get my cam though. It will be a couple weeks. I asked for it for my bday and my parents kind of hinted that they were getting it. So me my dad and my uncle are gonna put it in, so that will be fun!!!! Man's night haha.

hahaha I know the ls6 springs are cheaper. Well I ordered some through summit they were supposed to be 1.290 outside and .885 inside. Well the first ones were 1.250 outside and didn't fit over my guide. Then they were supposed to measure and send out if they measure right they sent out, the springs were identical. So I told the guy that they are retarded and I just want all my money back and the shipping back I am just going to order from comp. Ya so it has been now 3 weeks just for springs one week waiting for the first ones from summit one week waiting for the second ones, and now one week for the comp ones.

I dont know but they listed them as 1.290 and I measured both sets at 1.250 and they didn't fit over my guides. Comp lists theirs as 1.290 outside and .885 inside so I would think those would fit. Lets hope!!! If not I am going to just maching the guides down in class.
