Thoughts on this shift kit?

Well eventually I need a shift kit for my auto. So anyone use this? What is the difference between this and a J Mod? Is there any? Lastly would using this hurt my transmission at all? Or essentially help it?

But really, i would do a j-mod. Only bad thing is you have to send your valve body in to him to modify. And actually if you have balls enough, you can do it yourself.

Well after looking at it more, I think it actually is a J Mod. Your still messing with the valve body and my buddy has installed multiple shift kits on hit cars with no problems. Gotta love having friends who went to school for this stuff. From my understanding a J Mod is essentially just switching out a couple springs in the valve body and drilling what like 2 holes at a certain angle?

I also think at one point I was talking to my buddy about J mods and he said "What a shift kit?" then I think I showed him a shift kit for our cars (different than the one I posted in the OP) and he said it was the same thing. But I know someone will come in here and verify that for me.

The j-mod is a do it yourself valve body modification originally designed by a ford transmission engineer. It allows better fluid flow through the valve body increasing shift firmness and speed. The transgo kit is similar in that it replaces many parts of the valve body with speced up pieces that are beefed up and allow more fluid to flow. Also some of their kits can double as a manual valve body so you can shift through the gears manually if you want.

If it was me I'd definitely go with the transgo, I've heard great things and also heard they lengthen your transmissions life

Kyle, got a write up handy on how to do it? I know it's just like drilling 2 holes in the valve body. And all I would need to buy is a new gasket and fluid.

Look at VAP, or google it, I just bought an already modded valve body.

bottom line to the j-mod/shiftkit debate?

when you want the maximum performance from the trans, you need a real shift kit.
if you want a little extended life from the trans & something to brag to your buddies about, get a j-modded valve body.

typically a car will pick up 1-2 tenths going from a j-mod to a real shift kit.

one of the many threads on the subject, J Mod...where at?

you'll see in there what the drag racers all tell you.
