Question about Alt.
i replaced my alternator about 5 months ago...luckily i got a lifetime warranty...anyways the other night i was going down the highway, and my guages everything was dim...radio was flashing, and of course the battery guage was going down, first think i though was alternator... aways i pull off a buddy comes and helps out we swap out battery, he had a spare...it was enough to get me home...next day i go out to see what wrong, the bolt on the back the holds the wire going to the battery or where was FRIED at the end and burnt up some, and the bolt on the back broke off...anyways i got a new one and everything is back to normal, but im curious what could have cause that to happen??? O.o

If the connection was/became loose for some reason, it could cause an higher amp draw on the connnection especially if you run alot of accessories (i.e. amps, lights), potentially heating and burning the connection. Also a possibility is that the bolt got overtightened when it was installed and actually cracked the bolt (likewise causing a bad connection and possibly the same type of problem as the bolt slowly gave way). I'm not positive w/o more detail, but make sure any new connection is CLEAN and tight enough. GL bud.

I agree. If that connection got loose then there would definitely be arcing to it that could easily cause a fried connector.

Sounds like the rectifier went bad. That or the voltage regulator.
