8.8 or fix the 7.5

okey so i need new rear calipers and rotors, and a tlok and 4.10's. so i can buy calipers- $250, drilled/slotted rotors-$225, and tlok-$190, so itll be about 650 to repair my rearend, or i can buy a used 8.8 with calipers, rotors, and quadshocks for 850 shipped. what should i do? (i one day want a 4.2liter, but i will probally never go over 300 horsepower)
here is the 8.8

Ya cut to the chase and get the 8.8. It comes with T-lok already and you just need to buy new gears for it. It will still have the 3.23's so you want the 4.10's if you still have an auto

well is it worth the extra money, because other than strength that i will never need, what benefiets does it provide? Yea it has the tlok, but getting the tlok for the 7.5 is still cheaper.

yea, but everyone says that unless your pushing over 300 horsepower you would never break the 7.5 so how can you justify spending the extra 200, and the extra time itd take to put on? Is there any difference between the different control arms and quad shocks it comes with?

7.5 is weak if it does not have a t lock. 8.8 is a beast that will take a pounding.

i will be getting the t lok put in the 7.5 so pretty much im comparing these two things
7.5------------------------------------------------8.8
t-lok--------------------------------------------stock tlok
4.10's-------------------------------------------4.10s
drilled and slotted rotors----------------------stock used rotor
used calipers-----------------------------------used calipers
$800--------------------------------------------$1200

i wouldnt touch used calipers with a 4000 foot pole bud and i would still go with the 8.8 cuz if u blow a spider gear in that 7.5 it will chew up everything uve put into it.

The weakest part of the 7.5" rear are the spider gears. This is true for both the open dif and the ford tlok diff. I've seen people bust these gears running little more than stock hp/trq numbers launching with a 5 speed. Auto's are a little more forgiving. If someone plans on using the 7.5 assembly, they should invest in a tougher diff than crappy 7.5 ford units. Otherwise, look into the 8.8. They have tougher spider gears, which is still the weakest part of that diff.

if your getting the whole assembly it should all bolt right up. I would get drilled and slotted rotors though.

No you don't need them, but any upgrade is better than the 6er or GT stock crap. Everything will bolt right up. You should at least look into putting in the quad shocks, or wheel hop will be a nightmare.
