02, V6 mustang gas mileage problems.
I have a V6 mustang and the previous owner had GT injectors on it and Dual Flowmaster Exaust, But i only get 14MPG City and around 19 On Highway for a v6 i feel like its terrible ...
Is there something wrong with my car or the way i drive or something? Also its Manual Transmission, does anyone know which gear is best to stay in for best gas mileage? Ive been told that the LESS RPM the engine is running the less gas it uses.... Any advice would be helpful, Thanks! |

Also does anyone know how to get rid of Headlight FOG without buying a fog remover kit? I tried putting toothpaste for a minute and washing it, the fog goes away for a minute and comes back lol

Okay, check your fuel filter, plugs, and wires. Bad sparks and wires cause more fuel to be burned, and a faulty filter can contaminate gas and if there's a leak like there was on mine, the same mpgs will show up.
As for the FOG, try wet sanding then spraying them with clear. If not, buy new OEM ones for around $120 that look night and day compared to the old. I did that, I'm getting HID's now to complete it.

Does it still have GT injectors? If so which...
You can't just put different injectors in and call it a day. I don't think I could get that bad of gas mileage unless I really tried to.

I have a 02 V6 as well.. and I swear it gets like 16 mpg.. it just sucks.. It has a BRAND new Ignition coil, wires, and plugs. and it still sucks.. Gona go for a fuel filter next.. But I doubt that will solve it.
And as for the Headlight thing, go to you local auto store and get a pack of 3M wet/dry sand paper. There should be a pack that has like 200,400,800 and 1000 grit paper. Clean the lights with w/e cleaning shit u have, just get dirt and crap off. Take off the rubber seals on the outside of the light above the blinker area. Sand in horizontal motion with 200 first, then work your way up. (Takes a while) Make sure you spray water on the lights when you sand. when you get to the 800 grit, make sure you sand it for a while, and good. This is the one that will do the most work, and at the 1000 do that for a while too. You wont get it "perfect" but once you get the 1000 good, Buff with some light abrasive turtlewax or something. I had a turtlewax kit that came with a headlight sealer. I used that when they were fairly smooth, and they looked awesome. I can put up a tutorial or something if you want. or just look online, there are videos everywhere for it.

i remember once i got like 67 miles to half a tank. Still havn't found out what happened there, but it's been working fine since then. I usually get maybe 115130 a 1/2 tank, but i couldn't tell you if that was for sure numbers because i havn't driven my car in a while due to snow. But, get the regular fuel injectors for it, and maybe seafoam it to get all the carbon/buildup out.

Like others have said get some stock injectors and make sure it has the stock tune.
I get 20-22 city and 25-29 highway without trying to keep my RPMs low.

I almost always averaged 24mpg til i cammed and supercharged. The engine not running right with the cam didn't help at all, I swear I got 12 mpg no matter what. I wouldn't have even cared about that if it worked, and I still won't care. But you're way on the low side, unless you just have terrible driving habits like accelerating quickly. And yeah, 5th gears your best bet for mileage unless your going under 35 or so, cause you don't want to run it too low of rps or it will use more fuel and put more stress on the engine.

I know!!!! Im like damn! I get like 100/150 on half a tank. I bet it gets annoying when he has to drain the gas out every two months so it dosent clump.

If you have 24lb injectors without a tune then you're dumping a bunch of extra fuel in and would definitely get shit for mileage.

There's your problem. Replace them with a set of stock injectors for your car.

Or get a tuner and make use of the injectors. Wouldn't that also work?

Yes and that would be a good idea if the op plans on modding his car and making use of the tuner. But if he has no plans for that then it would be cheaper to just pick up a set of 19lbs injectors and throw them in.
