Spare Keys
Hey guys how do you go about getting spare keys. I am pretty sure my key has the chip in it. And also how much would you guess for the price ?
thanks

It depends on how many keys you currently have.
If you have 2+ then you can get a transponder key blank and have it cut cheap. You can then program it in yourself. Key blanks are usually ~$20 plus a few for the cut. If you have 1 then after you get a transponder key cut you'll have to have a dealership or locksmith with the right equiptment(hard to find) program it for you. My dealership wanted $150 for this but I got it done at a locksmith for $50 including the key blank and cut. If you have 0 keys then expect to pay about $300 at a dealership to get a working key made. You can always have a non-transponder key made for your doors. That would just be a few dollars and could be useful if you locked your transponder key in your car. Unfortunately you wouldn't be able to use it in the ignition though.

Or you could do what i did. I bought my car with only one key. I found a second key and keyfab under the drivers seat one day and the key was already programmed to the ignition...

Get a custom tune and turn pats off. Buy a $2 spare and watch it work. I have what amounts to a valet key as a spare ni just have a $2 key for when I lock my keys in my car.

I was told you can put the key with the chip up in the column and get regular copies from a hardware store and it would work

If you want to go that way you could just have PATS disabled. Really though it's a great security system, I don't know why you'd want to circumvent it.
