everyone whos done a 3.8 cam swap, i need help
everything is looking good and hooked and now im a little nervous
im using 918 springs along with the recommended retainers off comp cams. have any of you used 918 springs without machining the heads to have the springs sit lower. as of right now there is very little and i mean barley any space in between the roller rocker and the retainer. i cant slip a piece of paper in between the two, however i spray painted the bottom of the rocker to check to see if it hit the retainer, so i hand cranked it and i didn't see any of the spray paint on the retainer and the only paint that was disturbed on the bottom of the rocker was where the valve stem touched it. so it doesnt seem they are hitting each other (at least at hand crank speed) after using the starter to let it turn over we didnt see any problems either. a guy whose alot more experienced with this stuff said it looks ok to him and he would probably run it. but im nervous about how it might be at 6000rpms. because i really dont want to drop a valve into the motor why its on the dyno and have to build an entirely new motor. tom from ssms said to buy thier spring and retainer kit. idk just seems like he wants me to buy thier products. comp cams "customer service" was horrible and didnt help me at all. so right now im thinking of just running it. i really dont want to drop a valve but i really really dont want to take the heads off again and send them to the machine shop. so any of you running 918 srpings please jump in here and tell me im ok...please

yeah i know it recommended to get them machined but this thing seems like its dragged on enough. im just wanting to know if i could get away with it. how far does the rocker need to push the retainer down before im in trouble? i dont think id have any trouble with idle but at high rpms i know things are gonna start moving around and thats where im nervous
