Problems after FWI install

I installed a FWI on my 99 this weekend. Well as soon as I fired it up, it was idling real rough. I let it warm up to normal OT and it smoothed out a bit. I took it for a spin and throttle response was horrible and idle was lower than usual. It then set a SES light, so I had it checked and Im not sure which code it was but the guy at the shop told me it was MAF Sensor. So I went ahead and cleaned my MAF. I cleared the code and took it for another spin. Well it set the code again and was driving basically the same way. So now I went ahead and purchased a new MAF sensor and still I have the same problem. Should I just remove the intake and throw it in the garbage? What else should I look for before doing so? Thanks in advance

Andy (usually but right now)

Shouldn't have bought a new one.. Sounds lime you didn't hook a sensor up.

I connected all sensors. I triple checked everything about 20 times already

Just a couple of ideas:

-Did you make sure to put gasket between the MAF and the intake tube?
-Did you reconnect the PCV hose?
-Is your PCV hose badly dry-rotted?
-Did the PCV hose get disconnected from the valve cover? (It slide out pretty easily)
-Are all of your hose clamps tight?
-Did the upper part of the intake tube connecting to the throttle body get twisted and slide out of the connector? (the bottom by the throttle body slips right out if you twist the tube, even with tight hose clamps)
-MAF reconnected? IAT reconnected?

1. Yes the gasket is in place
2. Yes I connected the PCV hose
3. Yes the PCV hose was dry rotted, so I replaced it with new hose
4. No it has not slid out of the valve cover
5. All clamps are tight. Im a big guy, and I couldnt turn them anymore
6. The tube connecting to the TB is on there snugly.
7. Both sensors are connected.

I just finished removing the FWI, and replacing it with the stock intake (snorkel removed). Car runs like it did before the FWI install. Maybe I missed something, or maybe I did something wrong. I dont like to struggle so I just took it off all together. Lets just say there will be a FWI on craigslist soon.
Thanks for your help McQueen.

Andy

No problem man. If you have the time, you could try installing it one more time and carefully go over everything as you install it. The problems you're describing sound like you're getting air coming in after the MAF. I just can't imagine where if everything is connected and installed properly Where did you buy your CAI from?

It's a cheap eBay intake. Maybe thats the root of my problems. I will probably re-try it this weekend when I have time. I uninstalled it and re-installed it last night in the dark and it was no fun lol.

Anyways this here is what a lot of us around here pick up for a CAI: Mustang V6 Cold Air Intake Kit at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

It's cheap but I believe it's made by Stack Racing. For $75 it's not bad at all. Only problem I've had with mine is the plate that holds the filter/tube in the fender is rusting but I'm just going to paint it. But if you have some money to spend then I recommend the Windstar intake (VAP Auto - Windstar Kit). It's kind of pricey but it has pretty decent gains and really cleans up the engine bay. And I don't know anyone that's been disappointed with it. If I had the money laying around I'd buy one.
