weird idle question

Occasionally when I start my car it will idle weird, it'll keep going up and down, but it won't ever shut off it stays running, once I get going it goes away, most of the time it starts and idles like normal, it only does it every once in a while, in suggestions on what could be causing this?

Mine will idle up and down too. It doesn't do it all the time but when it does it starts like someone flipped a switch and lopes from 600rpm to 900rpm. I think my car just wants to pretend it's cammed every now and then, but in all seriousness I do wonder what causes it. BTW my car is also a '99.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Probably a slightly "gunked up" IAC or a dirty MAF. It wouldn't hurt to clean both of those.

Mine started doing this last week, and I was actually about to post a thread when I seen this one.
I'm gonna clean my MAF and IAC and I'll let you know if it makes a difference

Usually you have to clean the IAC a couple times for it to take affect.

Oh and make sure you use MAF cleaner, I don't want to see a thread about your car being weird because you used TB cleaner on a MAF.

It happens.
