First deep engine work. Head Gaskets.
So, I'm fairly sure I have blown a head gasket.
I blew one a couple months ago, and, being 13 years old, i am not surprised. Last time, I had it replaced by a technician that my parents had used for a while. Personally, I don't think he replaced both of them. This time, my parents say that its on my bill. So, I have decided to do it myself. (I don't have $1700) (what he charge us last time) I'm going to get a friend of mine who has done a lot of work on fords to help me, But i need to know what gasket, and what special tools I may need. Basically, would like to know -the top performance line head gaskets, (Don't want this happening again), -if i need to get any new bolts or seals for resealing -If i need any special tools like a torque wrench -Is there anything i should do or have done while I have the engine open. -anything i'm missing My budget is around $400. I don't want to have to spend all of it, but I want to buy the right stuff. Please, I would really like to do this right, as my Dad is quite upset.. ![]() Thank you. |

You need;
Head Gaskets, Head bolts, Upper and lower intake gaskets, and some RTV. Then you need a Torque wrench, Angle adapter, and a whole mess of sockets, ratchets, and wrenchs. You also need a way to verify that you gasket is in fact blown..

2. You have to torque the head bolts, the turn them x degrees more. And angle adapter will let you know when you hit that angle. 3. RTV is liquid gasket. You have to use it on the corners of the lower intake gaskets. 4. Get a ford manual and you'll find everything you need to know.
