Should I have shop convert v6 to dual exhaust or buy kit?
So I contacted a local muffler shop. And they said they'll do a complete dual conversion on my car for around $500. Problem is that I'm not very experienced with dual exhaust conversions and how they work, so I would like some of your wise wisdom
Basically what I want is a very nice sounding exhaust. All about that nice rumble. 1.)the kit is from americanmusccle website. It's the Pypes one -$474+$250 installation -The type of muffler they use isn't specified(unless I'm blind) 2.) Now, will it be better off for me to get a custom dual exhaust done and put in my own choice of mufflers? From what I know, it's the type of muffler you have that determines what kind of "sound" you get, correct? -If (2) is true, than would you guys have any recommendations of mufflers? And is there any difference from the kit vs custom conversion? Like the sound and such. |

get it custom fabbed and take a shop your own mufflers...i'd look around though because $500 is way to much...the pypes mufflers are ok btw, but the full setup from AM usually fits like crap. if you like the violator mufflers then order them seperately and take them to a shop
btw...GT take off tail pipes will save you cash, so check CL |

Should I tell them to do anything specific? Like an H or X pipe, thickness of the pipes? And do you guys have any suggestion on the kind of muffler I should have them install, since I want a deep throaty rumble. Thanks guys!Hopefully the muffler won't put a big dent in my wallet lol. BTW what's CL? |

Speaking of GT take offs, would an OEM GT h-pipe fit into oem v6 headers, or is there some sort of fabbing that goes into it?

CL = Craigslist
$500 = almost double what most including myself pay for mom & pop shops to do this mufflers = anything chambered...no single chambers though or race styles (unless your ESG lol) tubing size = 2.25-2.50 doesn't really matter on a v6 throaty rumble = won't happen without a cam, Long tube headers, and a good exhaust although you won't get the rumble you want, you'll still have a very good sounding car if you do a proper setup |

Thanks for the quick replies
So would this Flowmaster American Thunder Axle-Back Exhaust (05-10 GT & 07-10 GT500) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping! or http://www.americanmuscle.com/pypebo...back-0510.html be a better muffler for my conversion? Does it matter that I have a v6, and these are for GTs? |

Why do you say that I should do that setup instead? And I noticed that you have the flowmaster 40s on your exhaust. Is it just me, or is it hard to find those anymore |

. $39 for each muffler seems pretty cheap lolJust encase if I do wanna spend extra money and decide to go with Flowmaster American Thunder Axle-Back Exhaust (05-10 GT & 07-10 GT500) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping! , will the fact that it's for "GT" make a difference since i'm v6 going dual exhaust conversion. Sounds like such a stupid question while typing this. |

Is your car 05-09?
Sometimes small-time auto-parts store have Flow40s... I got 1 for $60... could be cheaper someplace else... Or you could go with Thrush Welds... .......and yes... I'm rockin' the "torch" setup! lol

I don't think you can do a direct bolt-on conversion if you get those kits from AM... otherwise they would've indicated on the description "05+ GT or V6 dual conversions". The shop would still have to custom fab it to fit under your car.
....and I don't think Flow 40s go as low as $39... Thrush but not Flows.
