UnderDrive Pulleys

Car:2001 Mustang V6 (3.8L)
Trans: Auto
Current Mods: K&N CAI, BBk Shorty Headers, Dual Exhaust w/ Flow 40s, Custom retune by local speed shop (lifted top end and changed f/a ratio allowances)
Dyno: Still need one.

So with all that info, here's my questions.

I have read and heard from other places and people that my next logical mod should be either a transkit (see other topic) or a UD pulley set-up. So my next logical course of action? Ask you guys and girls.

What are the benifits of UD pulleys, who's a good manufacturer and does it require another retune? What should be "underdriven"? Should anything be Over Driven? Cost effective? Gains?

Additional info: I use my car as a daily driver and I would like to be able to go to the track and post decent numbers for a n/a v6

not worth it for the money...maybe a 5ish hp gain which for the price isn't much

with your current mods you should be able to hit a consistant mid to high 15...well maybe a consistant mid 15 if you had gears & a tlok

is the 8.8 rear end of a gt a good swap-out for the stock rear end of the v6?

It is if you think you might need that extra strength down the road, but right now it would only be extra weight and lots of money.

if you can find one for around $100-150 it's not a bad swap, but it's not needed at all for 97% of v6's on this site

any good inexpensive tlok rear ends or positracks?

Also who makes the highest bang of the buck UD pulley kits?

i really dont know why everyone says dont get an 8.8 if you dont need it because of the wieght ... that wieght will help with traction ... id be willing to bet in a 1/4 that more traction will be better then a little extra wieght ... you need a good start ...

not from what i've seen...my friend had an 8.8 in his v6...and it didn't show to be any quicker on the 1/8th with the same mods besides that..we were both auto as well

sometimes he could put a 10th of a second on me...however i'm convinced that if a v6 with a tlok in a 7.5 would gain that 10th back

A V6 Mustang can break a 7.5" with stock power..... Just saying.

but it didn't help...im also pretty damn sure a 7.5 with a tlok will do better then gain a 10th on the track

think about it like this...for every 100lbs you add you loose a 10th of a second...and when you remove 100lbs you gain a 10th on average..he may have gained a 10th from the tlok in the 8.8...but lost time for the extra 100lbs he added...it's very easy to understand

you can put well over 400 hp on a stock 7.5 ...
you can also break one with a stock v6 ...
depends on how you drive it ...

Wouldn't doubt that one bit. On street tires I don't see a 7.5 breaking easily even at the track. I am willing to bet mine won't snap at the track in April with even my 100 shot
