96 Mustang Clutch option
Hey guys! I have been reading everywhere I could but nothing really answered my question about a clutch. I bought a 96 mustang w/ 200K miles on it. It runs great. I know its alot of miles. Anyways, the clutch is going out. So I have a low miles 4.2 from my buddies rear end wrecked F150 and im going to supercharge it. Anyways, because of work/school etc. it will be a couple months before I can swap engines, and I need a couple more parts for the 4.2 anyways. So here is the real question, I am thinking about a stage 3 Clutch for the stang, but can I swap the clutch while it is still the 3.8 N/A engine and brake it in? Or wait till I can do it all at once? What would Happen if I put the Stage 3 in now? Do I really need a stage 3 or just 2? This car is going to be my DD. Thanks

What are your future plans for this car that make you think you'd need a stage 2 or 3 clutch?

I've been running this clutch in my car and with a pretty much stock V6 I can chirp the tires in 3rd with 245's out back. This clutch is fairly aggressive and on the cheaper side for an aftermarket clutch with some holding power. I don't know how mcuh power it's supposed to hold, but I also don't know how much power your trying to make so I'll just throw it out there as an option.

If your looking for something with some extra holding power just in case I'd go with something like this RAM clutch. I have no experience with ebay F1 clutchs but RAM has a good reputation and like you said, better safe then sorry.

Thats great too. I just need some of the experience side of it. I can read forums and how to's all day long, but its nothing like getting out there and driving it yourself. If the Stage 2 will work fine im all for that.

I know what you mean, I wish there were more mustang guys around me so I could go for a ride in thier cars to see if I like a mod or part before I spend a few hundred on it to put it on my car and see if if I like it.

And I went with a SPEC Clutch and Flywheel. It has been a great driving experience since day one. I don't know anything about F1 either but if you can get your hands on something like a RAM, SPEC, Centerforce or a manufacturer that is commonly used in our cars you will be real happy you did for a long time.

Thats great. I would much rather use something known and trusted over something just cheap. Im all for saving money on parts but not at the sacrifice of performance and reliability.
