[Solved] I'm stumped. Stuttering on Accel

Hey. I'm confused.

I thought my engine had a blown head gasket, not so much not. I do not have any water or mixes in my oil, and no oil in radiator fluid, etc.

What happens is when I run the car for 20-30 minutes, I begin to loose power is the upper RPM's (2.5 to 3k rpm's). As I continue, it lowers to 2 - 2.5k rpm's. Then finally to 1800, making difficult to accelerate at all.

I changed my spark plugs as well as my fuel filter (In which I got gas in my ear. Oww).

Now i'm just not sure. My Hayne's it could be practically anything between the Gas Tank and the cylinders. Or it could be a clogged injectors, or Air Filter.

I installed this CAI.

What do yall think?

sounds like you are loosing amperage as you accelerate. check voltage, alternator, battery, wires, grounds, etc..

Might make sense, but the performance, and ultimate loss in power, is almost directly proportional to the heat of the engine. As I understand electricity, heat does not affect it that much.

I can still check the cables, but why would the hotter the engine cause a loss is electricity? Or higher resistance?

My guess would be an ignition or fuel delivery problem.

if it makes you feel better on the gas in your ear, one of my buddies was under my car with me when i was changing mine and gas poured out on him, he wasnt expecting it, went into his eyes nose mouth, basically my car gave him a gas facial.

im thinking the same thing. Its not the plugs or fuel filter, i know that. Could oxygen have anything to do with it? Could an O2 sensor be misrepresenting, giving improper amounts of fuel, messing up the ratio. If I unplug the O2 sensor to see if that is causing my problem, how would the 'puter work the f/o ratio?

Is the car throwing any codes?
no

I'm pretty sure if an o2 sensor was bad it would throw a code. I'd say maybe fuel pump. My (old) car did the same thing and it was fuel related.

I had similar problems. loss of power going up a hill but OK at other times. Problem was a bad spark plug wire. The connector had oxidized and broken off in the coil. My guess it was making good contact sometimes, which made it hard to find.

I replaced the coil and wires with a coil and wire kit from Performace distributers. Memphis TN. Part # 6MUSKIT-09. Made a big difference in performance and a little help in the mpg department.

Hope this helps.

Check your fuel pump, wires, coil, etc. Check for corrosion.

Any smell or smoke from the car?

Ignition coil maybe.
Seafoam it. Upper intake + gas tank. It needs it anyway if not done since loss of power.

Well I checked the plug wires. They are all fine. Actually, I think they got replaced here recently. Before I bought the car.

I think its a fuel pressure/pump problem.

Now that I think about it, I did smell gas from inside the car after i turned on the AC (was on vent) this morning at school. What would gas through the air vents mean? I have recently bleed pressure in fuel lines and changes fuel filter and plugs.

On a bad note, my dad has gotten tired of me complaining about it. He is taking the car to our family repair tech, who is going to look at it. I volunteered to fix it, but he wont let me.[ I think I have passed him in car knowledge, so he feels embarrassed. ]

anyway, my dad is getting it fixed and paying for it. So i guess I am ultimately okay with it. Less work for me, but I don't like giving up on problems. I'm putting my money on fuel pump. If that's what the tech fixes, I'll be happy.

PLEASE update the post when its running normal again.
Don't forget to Seafoam it. It will always help in eliminating peoples second guessing things. Our V6's pull a fair amount of oil condensation through the pcv valve system.
It's a $7.77 investment and worth so much more sometimes. Good luck!

Don't worry, I will. There are countless problems i solved on my own, that had all the info but the solution on the forums. People never followed up! lol..

Anyway. I would love to seafoam it, but my dad is insistent on taking it to Brian's. So, we will. (at least it's his bill)

Did the problem start after the Cai?
yes, but I do not think it is related. Problems started over 5 months since its arrival,

Ugh. Pony got fixed, It was here fuel pump.

Dual stage fuel pump has two motors, one runs nearly all time, the other runs only in high-consumptive situations. (high rpms) The second, momentary (higher rpm) motor died, cause starvation at higher revs.

(He charged me (my dad) $650.. I know i could've done it for a third that)

But now another problems, directly caused by him.
He forgot to put on the gasket that goes around the input nozzle. (Where you put the gas in) It's on the right side, and now everytime I turn left, I piss gas out my car.

mmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyynnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnn
Its a long drive, and i probably wont convince him to pay for towing.
anyway.
Thats in a new thread.
