So with my V6 how do I get a firm shift to chirp my rear tires when shifting/
So I have a V6 3.8 Auto Trans dual exhaust flowmasters.
I like the sound of having my tires chirp when shifting gears. i know it has to be a firm shift but how do I get it? I heard some people did it buy tuner, some by shift kit etc.. What is the best way to get the chirping sound when shifting gears? can someone help me out? I'm still kind of confused as to which tuner I need if I go that route and where to by it from.. Thanks Last edited by MustangGeek; March 22nd, 2011 at 01:02 AM. |

I suppose I could explain either way.
Auto: Method 1 -Hold the brakes -Rev the engine up a bit (you should be able to chirp them at 1500-2000RPM easily) -Take your foot off the brakes Method 2 (hard on your transmission) -Put the car in neutral -Rev up like method 1 -Drop into Drive (called a neutral drop or something like that) Manual -Put the clutch in, put the transmission in 1st gear -Rev the engine up -Dump the clutch If you keep pressing the gas harder after you let out the brakes/clutch then the wheels will spin (burnout) until they get traction. Using method 1 you can get the tires to spin while the brakes hold your front tires in place (you have to find a good balance where you can break the rear tires free but still have enough brake power to stay in one spot). With a manual you can dump the clutch and quickly use the brakes to keep yourself from moving (again finding a good balance to overcome the braking power in the rear while maintaining enough to stay still). Be aware, police will pull you over for doing burnouts or chirping your tires. If you're looking to mod, a tuner, gears (4.10 or 3.73), and a tlok are great choices to start with. The tuner will correct your tach and speedo for the steeper gears (plu shift points if you're auto), steep gear ratio will help you accelerate quicker and I feel like it' easier to spin my tires with 4.10 gears, and a tlok will allow you to spin both rear wheels (right now only 1 of your will spin due to your open differential).

Ummm punch the gas pedal?
dump the clutch? I used to get my 2007 Mazda 6i while it was N/A to chirp the tires like crazy...and that was a 3,800 lb. family sedan with a 158 bhp 2.3L.

If it is a manual just get really good at popping it into gear...more hp would not hurt either.

I'm not sure what year he has, but if it's a 94-98 I'm not sure it would be able to chirp the tires with a simple gas pedal mash. Those things were weak
I'm sure a 99-04 could do it though

That you will need a tuner for (I recommend the SCT X3 or SF3). And that's not the sort of tune you want to run every day. Basically you would need a tune to stiffen up your shifts and shift much higher than your stock tune is set for. And gears + tlok are some things you should consider to help out. But honestly, gear + tlok + tuner just to chirp the tires is probably going to cost more than you think. Expect around $800 for the gears, tlok, fluids, install/rebuild kit, and labor for the install then another nearly $400 for the tuner (supposing you get it from AmericanMuscle with the free tunes option).
Another thing you could try is manually shifting your car. I believe you get at least a 1st and 2nd gear option. You'd just need to run the RPMs pretty high and essentially power shift (don't take your foot off the gas between shifts). I'd be willing to bet the cars you hear chirping their tires between gears are manuals. It's much easier with a manual (trust me).

With stock V6 wheels plus a tuner.... at least mine did the "chirp" when I put my stockies... They're significantly lighter than my 18" Saleens...

If your going to do gears do tlok, and unless their lending you a speedcal your gonna want a tuner pretty soon because your speedo will be off.

He does have a point. I mean as long as your pretty heavy on the gas pedal constantly if your doing the "manual shifting" thing. You should be ok, but sitting there at 4k rpm just cruising will cause excess heat which in turn leads to part failure.
On a personal note I have heard my car "chirp" from shifting from 1st to 2nd then from 2nd to 3rd. This was of course at the track, I don't have a heavy foot on the streets... Thats illegal.
